AMES, Iowa (AP) — Frank Mason III had 16 points, Landen Lucas scored 14 and No. 2 Kansas held off Iowa State 76-72 on Monday night for its 17th straight win. Svi Mykhailiuk added 13 for the Jayhawks (17-1, 6-0 Big 12), who snapped a two-game skid in Ames and opened 6-0 in the Big 12 for the 10th time.

Though it was never comfortable for Kansas, the Jayhawks led the entire second half. Iowa State star Monte Morris drilled a long 3 and two free throws to make it 75-72 with 14.6 seconds left. But then Devonte Graham’s free throw made it a two-possession game and Morris missed a 3 that would’ve made for an interesting finish.

Morris scored 23 points with seven rebounds and seven assists for the Cyclones (11-6, 3-3), who saw their recent string of success against the Jayhawks come to an end.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs coach Andy Reid doesn’t believe the holding penalty on left tackle Eric Fisher that cost Kansas City a tying 2-point conversion against Pittsburgh on Sunday night should have been called. After watching film of the decisive play in the Steelers’ 18-16 playoff victory, Reid said Monday that “I don’t want to be fined any money, but I’d lean a different way.”

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)— Pittsburgh’s Chris Boswell set an NFL postseason record with six field goals and the Steelers eliminated the Kansas City Chiefs 18-16 to become the second victorious road team in the postseason. The Steelers took advantage of a holding penalty to negate a successful Kansas City two-point conversion after the Chiefs moved within two points with 2:43 left. On the second try from the 12-yard line, Alex Smith threw an incomplete pass in the back of the end zone and the Steelers held on. The Steelers have won nine straight games.

Of note, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger tied Mel Blount and Terry Bradshaw with his 19th postseason playoff game, the most in team history. Roethlisberger completed 20 of 31 for 224 yards. Big Ben will set the team record when the Steelers travel to Foxborough to play the Patriots next Sunday in the AFC championship. The Patriots beat the Steelers 27-16 on Oct. 23. Pittsburgh played without Roethlisberger, who was out with a knee injury.

ARLNGTON, Texas (AP) — The first major upset of the NFL playoffs has occurred and the victims are the Dallas Cowboys, the top seed in the NFC. The Green Bay Packers stunned Dallas 34-31. The Cowboys have won just two playoff games since 1996.

Mason Crosby boomed a 51-yard field goal at the final gun to send the Packers to the NFC title game against Atlanta. Crosby had hit a 56-yarder with 1:33 left before the Cowboys tied it. The big play in Green Bay’s game-winning drive was a 35-yard completion from Aaron Rodgers to Jared Collins on a third-and-20 situation.

Rodgers threw for 320 yards and two touchdowns as the 12-6 Packers won their eighth straight. The Cowboys finished 13-4. The Packers will visit Atlanta in Rodgers’ third NFC title game.

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Scottie Lindsey scored 22, Bryant McIntosh had 20 and Northwestern rolled to a convincing 89-54 win over Iowa on Sunday. Lindsey had a career-high eight rebounds while McIntosh, who was honored before the game for scoring his 1000th career point on Jan. 5 against Minnesota, shot an efficient 9 for 11 from the field and added 10 assists for his first double-double this season.

Northwestern (15-4, 4-2 Big Ten) opened the contest with a quick 8-0 advantage and seldom wavered from there. Iowa nearly closed the gap in the first half, cutting the deficit to three, but the Wildcats quickly answered with a 14-1 run.

Iowa (11-8, 3-3) entered Sunday averaging 83.0 points per game, but was stifled from start to finish, shooting just 35.3 percent. Peter Jok, who led the Big Ten with 22.9 points per game, was held to four points, snapping a streak of 22 games where he scored in double figures.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Bennett Koch and Jeremy Morgan had 21 points apiece, Jordan Ashton scored 13 of his career-high 17 points in the first half and Northern Iowa snapped a seven-game skid with a 79-60 win over Drake on Sunday.

Koch made 8 of 8 from the field and Morgan hit 7 of 12 — including 3 of 6 from 3-point range. Ashton made all five of his first-half shots, including three 3s.

Back-to-back 3-pointers by De’Antae McMurray gave Drake a 7-4 lead but the Bulldogs went scoreless over the next six-plus minutes as Northern Iowa (6-11, 1-5 Missouri Valley) scored 18-straight points to start a 33-6 run that made it 37-13 with five minutes left in the half. The Panthers led by double figures the rest of the way.

Reed Timmer had 18 points, Ore Arongundade scored 16 and McMurray 13 for Drake (5-13, 3-3).

Northern Iowa shot a season-high 57 percent (29 of 51) from the field. The Bulldogs hits just 21 of 55 shots (38 percent).
