KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs have released 14 players ahead of the NFL’s deadline to reach the 75-man roster limit, including former Kansas tight end Tim Biere. The Chiefs made the cuts Sunday. The deadline is this (Monday) afternoon. There were no major surprises as the Chiefs trimmed their roster following a 44-14 loss to Seattle last Friday night. Other players released by the Chiefs were fullback Shane Bannon; defensive backs Dominique Ellis and Jean Fanor; linebackers Caleb Campbell and Dexter Heyman; offensive linemen Justin Cheadle and Cam Holland; defensive end Ethan Johnson; kicker Matt Szymanski; and wide receivers Jeremy Horne, Brandon Kinnie, Zeke Markshausen and Aaron Weaver.

Leake (6-8) allowed at least one hit in every inning except one, but kept the Cardinals mostly at bay. Leake, who also had two hits, lasted 6 2-3 innings, allowing 10 hits and two runs.

Seahawks Rout Chiefs in Preseason Contest

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Rookie quarterback Russell Wilson staked his claim to the starting job in Seattle on Friday night, throwing for 185 yards and two touchdowns while leading the Seahawks to a 44-14 rout of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Wilson has been competing for the job with Matt Flynn, who was held out of the game with a sore elbow, and he got a lot of help from the rest of the Seahawks.

Earl Thomas intercepted Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel and returned it 75 yards for a touchdown, and Golden Tate returned a punt 92 yards for another score.

The Seahawks (No. 22 in the AP Pro 32) are unbeaten in the preseason. Kansas City (No. 18) has dropped two straight after beating Arizona.

#2 St. Albert Visits Griswold Tonight in HS Football

Sports

August 24th, 2012 by Ric Hanson

Expectations are high at Council Bluffs St. Albert where the Class 1A second ranked Falcons open on the road at Griswold, tonight (Friday). Coach Kevin Culjat’s team borrowed a theme from many college basketball programs as they conducted their own version of “Midnight Madness” to open pre-season practice. He says with the weather being so hot, they were practicing at night anyway, so that’s the way the kicked-off the season. Culjat says they adopted the theme “First team to practice last team to play.” They rolled out to practice at 12:01-a.m. and worked out for about 2-hours. Afterward the kids got to sleep in the next day. The team ran their second two-a-day practice on Monday night, which allowed them to split the week up. He says the kids and coaches enjoyed the change in practice times.)

Several new faces will be counted on this season. Culjat says they lost seven-out-of 10 players last year to college football. This year’s starting players are ready to step-up to fill their shoes, and he’s anxious to see how they perform tonight. Culjat says the Falcons will be tested by Griswold. He says the Tigers have a very athletic group, and have lost only five or six Seniors, so they have a lot of returning starters, especially on defense. The team also has the speed necessary to run the ball because they also participate in track.

Listen to the game live tonight on KJAN with pre-game at 6:30 and kick-off at 7:00.
