SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Marcus Marshall scored 19 points and Missouri State never trailed on its way to a 62-37 victory over Drake on Saturday. Marshall was 8 of 17 from the floor and 2 of 6 from 3-point range. Camyn Boone and Austin Ruder each added 12 points for the Bears (8-6, 2-0 Missouri Valley Conference).

Missouri State led 35-22 at the break, and held the Bulldogs to just 15 second-half points. C.J. Rivers made a free throw at the start of the second, and Drake didn’t score again until Jordan Daniels hit a jumper with 13:57 left to play. Missouri State grabbed 20 more boards than Drake in the contest.

Jacob Enevold Jensen led the Bulldogs (3-11, 0-2) with 13 points, the only Drake player to score in double figures as the team combined to shoot 28.6 percent.

NEW YORK (AP) — Duane Notice scored 15 points and South Carolina picked up its first win over a top-10 team in nearly five years by nearly holding Iowa State without a 3-pointer for the first time in over seven years in a 64-60 victory Saturday at Barclays Center.

Notice also had six rebounds and four assists as the Gamecocks (11-1) shot 46 percent and led most of the way. Sindarius Thornwell and Tyrone Johnson had 13 apiece points for South Carolina, which was able to turn back any Iowa State run and picked up its first win over a top-10 team since knocking off Kentucky on Jan. 26, 2010.

Jameel McKay, playing in his third game for Iowa State after becoming eligible, scored 15 points and Dustin Hogue also had 15. Niang, who came into the game averaging 16.1 points, was held to 10 points.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) – Joshua Dobbs accounted for three touchdowns, Jalen Hurd ran for two scores and Tennessee beat Iowa 45-28 on Friday in the TaxSlayer Bowl for its first postseason victory since the Phillip Fulmer era. The Volunteers (7-6) scored on their first four possessions, leading 28-0 before Iowa (7-6) managed 70 yards.

Hurd, Dobbs and a bit of trickery helped Tennessee build the big lead. Hurd broke tackles on nearly every run, capping Tennessee’s first possession with a 3-yard score and adding a 29-yard touchdown scamper on the next drive.

Tennessee made it 21-0 late in the first quarter when Dobbs threw a lateral to running back Marlin Lane in the right flat. Lane, a senior from nearby Daytona Beach, turned and hit Vic Wharton in stride down the sideline. It was Tennessee’s first postseason victory since beating Wisconsin in the 2008 Outback Bowl.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – Groups representing rape victims and college administrators are asking a court to uphold Iowa State’s decision to kick a basketball player off the team for alleged sexual misconduct. The Victim Rights Law Center and Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education say the case of former Cyclone guard Bubu Palo has national significance. Iowa State is asking the Iowa Supreme Court to reverse an August ruling that found there wasn’t evidence that Palo violated its sexual misconduct policy.

In a friend-of-the-court brief filed Monday, the national groups say the case could impact students and colleges in Iowa and across the country. They say universities must be able to use internal disciplinary hearings to enforce stricter standards of sexual misconduct than criminal law allows.

Nearly a month of build up comes to an end today (Friday) as Iowa and Tennessee collide in the Taxslayer Bowl in Jacksonville. For the Hawkeyes it is a chance to end what has been a disappointing season on a positive note but they will need to get by a Volunteer team that is making its first bowl appearance since 2010. The Hawkeyes struggled this season against dual threat quarterbacks and Tennessee has one in sophomore Joshua Dobbs, who took over midway through the season after an injury to Justin Worley.

Coach Kirk Ferentz says Tennessee will try to keep the Iowa defense off balance. Iowa’s offense should have more big play ability with a healthy Jordan Canzeri getting some carries at running back. Jake Rudock will start at quarterback but C.J. Beatherd is also expected to play in the opening half.

Tennessee coach Butch Jones says his players are ready for kickoff, but it will take a great effort to beat the Hawkeyes. Tennessee has 17 freshmen in the two-deep. If the Volunteers have a weakness it is the offensive line and right tackle Jacob Gilliam says they will need to find a way to handle Iowa’s defensive line.

Iowa is 7-5 and Tennessee is 6-6 and this will be their third meeting. The Hawkeyes beat the Volunteers 28-22 in the 1982 Peach Bowl and Tennessee claimed a 23-22 win in the 1987 Kickoff Classic. Catch the game today beginning at Noon, on KJAN.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — D.J. Balentine scored 17 points and Evansville came all the way back from 16 down to beat Number 23 Northern Iowa 52-49 on Thursday night. Egidju Mockevicius added 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Purple Aces (11-2, 1-0 Missouri Valley Conference). Jaylon Brown made four free throws in the last 7 seconds to seal it.

Seth Tuttle led UNI with 18 points, but fouled out in the final minute. Nate Buss added nine for the Panthers (11-2, 0-1). For one half, Northern Iowa’s swarming defense completely frustrated Evansville, holding the Purple Aces to 20 points in the first 20 minutes as the Panthers built a lead as large as 16.

But the second half was a different story.
