Chiefs welcome first-round pick Peters on draft’s last day

Sports

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – The Kansas City Chiefs addressed just about all their needs by the end of the NFL draft. With five picks on Saturday, the Chiefs plucked Ramik Wilson out of Georgia in the fourth round and then added fellow linebacker D.J. Alexander out of Oregon State in the fifth round. Linebacker was one of their glaring holes after the first two days of the draft.

Kansas City also added depth with Illinois State tight end James O’Shaughnessy in the fifth, defensive tackle Rakeem Nunez-Roches from Southern Miss in the sixth, and Northern Illinois wide receiver Da’Ron Brown in the seventh round.

Earlier Saturday, the Chiefs introduced first-round pick Marcus Peters at their practice facility. The former Washington cornerback was picked No. 18 overall on Thursday night.

Line-happy Rams draft Iowa OT Andrew Donnal

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Rams picked their third offensive lineman of the NFL draft, selecting Andrew Donnal of Iowa in the fourth round on Saturday. The Rams have just two starters back on the line, guard Rodger Saffold and tackle Greg Robinson.

They picked Rob Havenstein of Wisconsin in the second round and Jamon Brown of Louisville in the third. The 6-foot-7, 305-pound Donnal started every game at right tackle as a senior and was honorable mention All-Big Ten by league coaches. He made no starts in 2013 but played at guard and tackle.

Chiefs aim to add depth on final day of NFL draft

Sports

May 2nd, 2015 by Ric Hanson

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — After addressing their biggest needs, the Kansas City Chiefs are turning their attention to adding depth at several positions on the final day of the NFL draft. Kansas City has already traded away a fifth- and sixth-round pick, but still has five choices today (Saturday): a fourth-rounder, two fifths, a sixth and a seventh-round selection.

The Chiefs added cornerback Marcus Peters in the first round, then shored up the offensive line by taking Michael Morse in Round 2. They traded up to select wide receiver Chris Conley in the third round, then took cornerback Steven Nelson with a compensatory pick. Among their remaining needs are inside linebacker and additional depth across the board.
