The CAM Cougars got 45 points from the four Sophomores in their starting line-up to lead a win over the AHSTW Lady Vikes 52-43. Madison Gettler led the way with 17 points as the cougars led most of the game after a slow start. Paige McAfee had 10 first half points to help the Cougars to an 8 point lead 30-22 at intermission. McAfee finished with 14 and Macy Ticknor had 10. It was the first game of the year for the Cougars and Coach Joe Wollum was glad to start it with a win.
Madison Gettler played really strong on the block to lead the Cougars to the win and Coach Wollum talked about her improvement.
The Cougars start the season 1-0 and have a Tuesday night trip to Ar-We-Va. AHSTW falls to 0-2 on the young season and now prepare for a Friday night road trip to Oakland to face Riverside.
The Atlantic Boys Basketball team is preparing to open up the 2016-17 season on Tuesday night at Winterset and Head Coach Alan Jenkins wants that first game to be all his team worries about right now. The Trojans are coming off a great 18-5 season that ended with a disappointing loss in the District Final to Glenwood. Coach Jenkins says he hasn’t really talked about that game with his team because it’s behind them now and he likes the progress his team has made over the summer.
Coach Jenkins thinks this team has the ability to play a similar style to last year’s squad but there are plenty of differences in strengths.
Expectations are high again for the Trojans and Coach Jenkins wants this team to focus on what they have to do night in and night out and enjoy the ride.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — New England quarterback Tom Brady has earned his 200th victory to tie Peyton Manning for the most by an NFL quarterback. Brady caught Manning by hitting Malcolm Mitchell for an eight-yard TD with 1:56 remaining in the Patriots’ 22-17 comeback over the Jets. Brady was 30 of 50 for 286 yards and no interceptions, with both scoring strikes going to Mitchell as the Patriots improved to 9-2.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Sebastien Janikowski capped Oakland’s comeback by drilling a 23-yard field goal with 1:45 left in a 35-32 win against Carolina. Derek Carr threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns despite missing a series with an injured pinky on his passing hand. The Raiders managed to improve to 9-2 after the 5-6 Panthers scored the first 25 points in the second half to go ahead by seven.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Seahawks had won three straight before the Buccaneers held them to 245 total yards in a 14-5 win over Seattle. The Bucs did their scoring on first-quarter touchdown passes by Jameis Winston to Mike Evans. Russell Wilson ran for 80 yards on eight carries but was just 17 of 33 for 151 yards and two interceptions as the Seahawks dropped to 7-3-1.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Kyrie Irving delivered 19 of his season-high 39 points while Cleveland was outscoring the 76ers 35-27 in the fourth quarter of a 112-108 comeback at Philadelphia. LeBron James finished with a triple-double of 16 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists. Kevin Love had 25 points and 11 boards as the Cavs improved to 13-2 with their fourth straight win.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Clippers have their first losing streak of the season after Glenn Robinson III and Myles Turner each scored 17 points to lead Indiana’s 91-70 stifling of Los Angeles. Al Jefferson finished with 16 points and eight rebounds, while fellow backup Rodney Stuckey had 12 points to help the Pacers post just their second two-game winning streak of the season. Blake Griffin had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Clippers, who shot just 31 percent from the floor and were 4-for-24 on 3-point attempts in falling to 14-4.
DENVER (AP) — Cairo Santos’ 34-yard field goal hit the left upright and bounced through as the overtime period expired Sunday night to give the Kansas Chiefs a 30-27 victory over the Denver Broncos on Sunday night. That avoided the third tie in the NFL this season, something that hasn’t happened since 1973 before the league introduced overtime.
The winner followed a risky move by Broncos coach Gary Kubiak, who sent his kicker out for a 62-yard try with 1:01 left only to see Brandon McManus — who has hit from 70 yards in training camp — come up short. McManus practically begged to get a crack at the 62-yarder.
“That’s still well within my range. I just kind of hit the ground,” he said. “From that distance, everything kind of needs to be perfect just because of how far you are away. It didn’t happen for me.”
Instead of having to go 80 yards or more, however, the Chiefs got the ball at the Denver 48 with one timeout and just over a minute remaining. The Chiefs reached the Denver 16 before Santos ended the snoozer-turned-thriller in perfect fashion. Even his teammates hesitated as they ran out to celebrate, unsure if the ball had clanked through or not with the stadium rocking as if it hadn’t.
The Chiefs (8-3) kept up with the Oakland Raiders (9-2) in the AFC West race and the Broncos (7-4) could find themselves fighting for a wild card now.
Up next for Kansas City: The Chiefs continue a brutal road swing with a trip to Atlanta next weekend.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — Nigel Williams-Goss scored 18 points as No. 11 Gonzaga nearly blew an 18-point second-half lead before beating No. 21 Iowa State 73-71 in Sunday’s championship game at the AdvoCare Invitational. Josh Perkins added 12 points and Przemek Karnowki had 11 for Gonzaga (6-0). Iowa State (5-1) got 29 points from Deonte Burton, including 21 in the second half.
Iowa State played the invitational without Solomon Young, who could miss four weeks with a left hand injury. The freshman forward is averaging 8.7 points and 5.3 rebounds. The Cyclones face Cincinnati Thursday night, a team that received votes in the AP poll.
