AMES, Iowa (AP) — Naz Mitrou-Long scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half and Iowa State rallied from 14 down to beat Texas Tech 63-56 Friday. Monte Morris had 14 points with six assists for the Cyclones (9-3, 1-0 Big 12), who recovered from an ugly start to beat the Red Raiders at home for the sixth time in a row.
After looking sluggish for well over a half, Iowa State ripped off 16 straight points — and a Mitrou-Long 3 gave the Cyclones their first lead, 55-52, with 4:29 left. Texas Tech (11-2, 0-1) out-rebounded the smaller Cyclones 42-27. But the Red Raiders went scoreless for 7 ½ minutes down the stretch, allowing Mitrou-Long and Iowa State to overtake them behind a crowd that went from irritated to raucous in no time.
Keenan Evans led Texas Tech with 15 points, and Anthony Livingston scored 13. Zach Smith had 14 rebounds for the Red Raiders, who were outscored by 17 points in the second half.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs ruled Justin Houston out for Sunday’s game in San Diego with swelling in his surgically repaired left knee, throwing into question the four-time Pro Bowl pass rusher’s availability for the playoffs. The Chiefs also activated linebacker Justin March-Lillard from injured reserve and waived defensive lineman David King on Friday, though Chiefs coach Andy Reid said March-Lillard is unlikely to play this week.
Running back Spencer Ware is listed as questionable for the game with bruised ribs. Houston was also inactive for last week’s win over Denver, which clinched a postseason spot. The Chiefs can win the AFC West and earn a first-round bye by beating the Chargers on Sunday if division-leading Oakland also loses to the Broncos.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – De’Antae McMurray had a career-high 24 points and Drake held off a late rally to beat Loyola of Chicago 102-98 in the Missouri Valley opener for both teams on Thursday night. Reed Timmer added 23 points for the Bulldogs (3-10), who led from the 11:36 mark of the first half and had a 16-5 run to lead 89-69 with 4:41 left.
But Drake allowed the Ramblers (10-4) to score 16 straight in the next 2:39 to get to 89-85 and again within four at 96-92 with 53 seconds left. Drake made 6 of 8 free throws from there to hold on for their second straight win after an eight-game losing streak. Billy Wampler added 16 points, Ore Arogundade scored 15 and Nick McGlynn 12.
Donte Ingram set career highs with 30 points and 10 rebounds for Loyola. He made 12 of 18 from the field but just 1 of 5 from 3-point range. Ben Richardson added 22 points and Milton Doyle scored 12.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Freshman guard Carsen Edwards scored 19 points and Dakota Mathias added 17 as No. 15 Purdue dominated Iowa 89-67 on Wednesday night in the Big Ten opener for both teams. It was the seventh consecutive victory for the Boilermakers (12-2, 1-0), who also got 16 points from Isaac Haas, 15 from Vince Edwards and 11 points and 10 rebounds from Caleb Swanigan, who recorded his fifth consecutive double-double.
Big Ten scoring leader Peter Jok of Iowa, who came in averaging 22.6 points, was held to 13 on 4-of-15 shooting, including 1 of 7 from 3-point range. Mathias was the primary defender on Jok. It was Purdue coach Matt Painter’s 250th victory at his alma mater. Painter is in his 12th season with the Boilermakers, who lost to Iowa twice last season.
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Dequon Miller had 17 points, Alize Johnson had a double-double and Missouri State held on to defeat Northern Iowa 68-64 in the Missouri Valley Conference opener Wednesday night after almost squandering a 24-point lead.
The Bears (10-4) had a 19-0 run and raced to a 32-8 lead at the 6:47 mark of the first half, capped by Ronnie Rousseau III’s 3-pointer, their eighth to that point. Miller had three, Johnson and Ryan Kreklow two each. The Panthers got the deficit down to 39-22 at halftime.
But after shooting 32 percent in the first half, Northern Iowa shot 57 in the second, went 16 of 20 from the foul line and forced 11 early turnovers. The margin was 22 with 14 minutes left but a 15-2 run cut it to 55-46 with 9:16 left. Eventually a pair of layups by Jeremy Morgan made it a two-point game twice in the final 20 seconds before two free throws by Kreklow iced it with three seconds left.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Former Drake assistant Courtney Graham has sued Bulldogs coach Jennie Baranczyk and the university, claiming she was forced to resign after her homosexuality became public.
In her recently filed federal lawsuit, Graham alleged that Baranczyk slowly stripped her of her duties as assistant head coach after she brought her girlfriend and now wife to a home game in November 2014.
Baranczyk and athletic director Sandy Hatfield-Clubb, through spokesman Ty Patton, declined to comment. Patton said that the university’s policy is not to comment on personnel matters or pending lawsuits.
