HOUSTON (AP) — Alex Smith threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns to help the Kansas City Chiefs remain undefeated with a 42-34 victory over the Houston Texans. Houston star J.J. Watt broke his left leg in the first quarter.
HOUSTON (AP) — Rookie Kareem Hunt continues to pile up yards and help the Kansas City Chiefs keep winning. Hunt had 29 carries for 107 yards as the Chiefs remained undefeated with a 42-34 win over the Houston Texans. It was the fourth 100-yard rushing game for the third-round pick out of Toledo. He needs one more to tie Joe Delaney’s franchise rookie record of five set in 1981.

Paying players has become standard operating procedure for some programs and the arrest of 10 people accused of influencing top recruits could change that. It’s a part of basketball the NCAA has failed to fully uncover for years.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Freshman Jonathan Taylor rushed for a season-high 249 yards and two touchdowns to lead a punishing ground game that helped ninth-ranked Wisconsin wear down Nebraska in the second half of a 38-17 win. The Badgers beat the Huskers for the fifth straight time and took sole possession of first place in the Big Ten West. Devine Ozigbo ran for 112 yards for Nebraska.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Nate Stanley threw for 247 yards and three TDs and Iowa rolled past Illinois 45-16, snapping a two-game losing streak. Safety Brandon Snyder added an 89-yard interception return for a score in his first game back from a knee injury for the Hawkeyes who outscored Illinois 28-3 in the second half. Snyder’s pick-six came with 6:40 left in the third quarter and made it 24-16 Iowa.
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Sean McGuire threw three touchdowns including the game-winner in the final seconds as Western Illinois beat Northern Iowa 38-29. The Leathernecks (4-1, 1-1 Missouri Valley Conference) trailed 29-25 with six seconds to play when McGuire hit Jaelon Acklin at the goal line for a 20-yard touchdown and a 31-29 lead. Michael Bishoff recovered a NIU fumble on the ensuing kickoff and took it 20 yards for another Leathernecks’ touchdown for the final score as time expired.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Alex Jeske had two touchdowns while the Dayton defense hauled in four interceptions, forced a fumble and blocked a field goal to help the Flyers to a 20-10 win over Drake on Saturday. Tied 3-3 at the half, Dayton (2-4, 1-2 Pioneer Football League) broke away with the opening drive of the third quarter when Jeske ran in the go-ahead touchdown from the 7, capping a 75-yard drive that included a 42-yard catch by Matt Tunnacliffe. Later, Nick Surges intercepted a pass by Drake’s Grant Kraemer, setting up Jeske’s 29-yard touchdown throw to Ryan Skibinski to make it 17-3 with 1:43 left in the third.
Allen Waltz, who had a 25-yard field goal in the first, closed out the scoring with another short field goal with 5:10 to go. Drake’s final three possessions ended with a turnover-on-downs and two interceptions. Jeske finished 12 of 22 for 197 yards and Tucker Yinger had 101 yards with 24 carries. Tim Simon had two interceptions for Dayton, and Andrew Lutgens and Surges each finished with one. Drake (3-3, 2-1) got a field goal from Danny Donley in the first but his 21-yard attempt in the second quarter was blocked by Reagan Malas. Kraemer finished 12 of 40 for 188 yards for Drake and ran in a TD from the 1.

Illinois entered play with the Big Ten’s worst rushing attack, but the Fighting Illini carved up Iowa’s front for 200 yards on the ground. Iowa’s defense once again stiffened after some halftime adjustments though, and its offense finally found life in the second half. The Hawkeyes also looked like they could really use the upcoming bye week.
Iowa is off next week. The Hawkeyes play at Northwestern on Oct. 21.

Kempt, the senior who had thrown just two passes in his career before Saturday, played because regular starter Jacob Park went on leave for undisclosed personal medical reasons late this week. The Cyclones remained confident, despite having lost 20 straight against ranked opponents. Iowa State’s last win over a Top 25 team came against TCU in 2012. It was Iowa State’s first road win over a Top 5 team.
Lanning, who switched from quarterback to linebacker in the offseason, played both positions Saturday. According to the Des Moines Register, he’s the first Iowa State player since 1971 to get significant action both ways in a game. He ran for 35 yards, passed for 25 and had eight tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery. He played 78 snaps.

Iowa State quarterback Jacob Park will not play against No. 3 Oklahoma on Saturday for undisclosed medical reasons.
The school announced Friday that Park is taking a leave from the team to work through personal health issues. He remains a member of the squad.
Iowa State coach Matt Campbell is not certain of a timeline for Park’s return, and said he cannot discuss issue. Campbell said Iowa State is focused on “supporting one another in difficult times.”
Park has completed 62 percent of his passes and has nine touchdown passes and five interceptions this season.
