Here is the latest Mid-America sports news from The Associated Press

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Paul DeJong homered, Yadier Molina drove in three runs and the streaking St. Louis Cardinals outslugged the Cincinnati Reds 13-4 on Tuesday night. The Cardinals have won four straight and six of their last seven to stay two games behind the first-place Chicago Cubs in the NL Central. Molina’s two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the first gave the Cardinals a 2-1 lead. He drove in his 10th run over his past three games with a single in the sixth. Molina leads the team with 75 RBIs.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Brandon Moss hit a grand slam in the first inning for his third consecutive game with a homer, powering the Kansas City Royals to a 4-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox. It was Moss’s fourth career grand slam. Scott Alexander worked out of a ninth-inning jam for his fourth save in six chances. Sam Gaviglio picked up his first Royals victory in his second start after being picked up on waivers Sept. 1 from Seattle.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa’s passing game had become inept by the end of last season. Last weekend’s overtime win at Iowa State showed that the Hawkeyes might finally have some answers for their once-lethargic attack. Sophomore Nate Stanley has thrown eight touchdown passes in just two starts — the most ever for a first-year quarterback under 19-year coach Kirk Ferentz — to lead the Big Ten and rank third nationally. The Hawkeyes host North Texas on Saturday.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska coach Mike Riley has been given a one-year contract extension through the 2020 season. Riley originally signed a five-year contract when he was hired in December 2014. The extension now puts him on a four-year contract. Riley is 16-12 with the Cornhuskers. Athletic director Shawn Eichorst said the extension is indicative of his belief in Riley’s leadership.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska basketball player Isaac Copeland has received a waiver from the NCAA and is immediately eligible for the 2017-18 season. He took a medical redshirt at Georgetown after playing in seven games because of an injury in 2016-17. Copeland transferred to Nebraska last January. The Nebraska athletic department says Copeland will have two years of eligibility remaining.
