BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — Marcus Weymiller ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns on 42 carries and Northern Iowa jumped on top early, cruising to a 38-18 win over South Dakota State on Saturday.

The Panthers (3-3, 2-1 Missouri Valley Conference) turned the tables on South Dakota State by scoring 17 first-quarter points. The Jackrabbits (4-2, 1-2) entered the game with a 56-7 advantage in opening quarters this season. South Dakota State also came in with the top third-down efficiency rating in the FCS at 62.1 percent, but the Panthers held them to 25 percent (3 of 12).

Weymiller scored on runs of 11 and 15 yards in the first half. Eli Dunne threw for two TDs in the fourth and finished 13-of-22 passing for 169 yards for the Panthers.

Northern Iowa also kept the Jackrabbits’ Brady Mengarelli in check. Mengarelli, coming off a 220-yard performance last week, was held to 33 yards on seven carries.

SDSU’s Jake Wieneke notched his 51st receiving TD to move into third all-time in the FCS.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – The Chiefs, Saturday, placed Chris Conley on injured reserve with a ruptured Achilles’ tendon, and elevated fellow wide receiver Marcus Kemp from the practice squad to the active roster. Kansas City also changed wide receiver Albert Wilson’s status for Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh to questionable. Wilson was not listed on the final injury report after dealing with knee pain this week.

Conley ruptured his Achilles’ tendon last Sunday in Houston, but the Chiefs were considering their options before making the move to put him on IR. They ultimately decided to bring Kemp off the practice squad with Wilson questionable for the Steelers game. Kemp earned his roster spot after signing with Kansas City as an undrafted free agent from Hawaii.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — David Montgomery ran for a career-high three touchdowns and Iowa State throttled Kansas 45-0 on Saturday for its second straight win. Trever Ryen added a 68-yard punt return for a score for the Cyclones (4-2, 2-1 Big 12), who held the Jayhawks to a season-low 106 yards and shut out a Big 12 opponent for just the fourth time.

Montgomery turned an interception into a 4-yard TD run to open the scoring, and Ryen’s return gave Iowa State a 14-0 lead. A bad snap on a punt by Kansas (1-5, 0-3) led to Montgomery’s 1-yard TD plunge that pushed the Cyclones ahead 24-0, and Marchie Murdock’s 8-yard TD reception to end the third quarter made it 38-0.

Kansas, which entered play averaging 26.5 points in two Big 12 games, put forth one of the worst offensive performances in school history. The Jayhawks punted 13 times, were just 2 of 17 on third down and didn’t cross into Iowa State territory until midway through the fourth quarter. Taylor Martin had 53 yards rushing for Kansas, which was without leading rusher Khalil Herbert (hamstring).

The Cyclones are just two wins from bowl eligibility at the season’s midway point, a result nearly Iowa State fan would’ve taken in August. It’s not as though Iowa State played its best game of the season either. The Cyclones simply took advantage of an inept opponent, something that a lot of Iowa State teams in recent memory might not have been able to do.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The Ohio State-Nebraska game matches two of the five programs with the most major college football wins in history. The teams are in very different places entering Saturday night’s game in Lincoln. The ninth-ranked Buckeyes beat Nebraska by 59 points last year in Columbus and have dominated four straight opponents since their loss at home to Oklahoma.

TYLER, Texas (AP) — A Texas man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after being convicted of robbing Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and three others in May. Thirty-four-year-old Michael Blake Pinkerton was sentenced after pleading guilty to a robbery charge. Mahomes and his friends were in the driveway of a home near Tyler, Texas, when another vehicle pulled up behind them. Pinkerton approached, gestured like he had a handgun and took unspecified items from the group before speeding away.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and pass rusher Justin Houston were back on the practice field Friday and will be ready to go when Kansas City plays the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Kelce cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol earlier in the week. Houston had calf spasms.

NEW YORK (AP) — Houston Texans safety Marcus Gilchrist has been fined $24,309 by the NFL for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce last Sunday night. Gilchrist was penalized for unnecessary roughness in the second quarter of the Chiefs’ 42-34 victory when his helmet made contact with Kelce’s helmet while trying to tackle the tight end following a 26-yard catch.

TYLER, Texas (AP) – A Texas man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after being convicted of robbing Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and three others in May. Thirty-four-year-old Michael Blake Pinkerton was sentenced after pleading guilty Wednesday to a robbery charge. Authorities previously said Mahomes and his friends had just stepped from a vehicle in the driveway of a home near Tyler when another vehicle pulled up behind them. Pinkerton approached, gestured like he had a handgun in his waistband and took unspecified items from the group before speeding away. Pinkerton was arrested shortly afterward.

Mahomes played at Texas Tech and grew up near Tyler, about 100 miles southeast of Dallas. The robbery occurred about a month after the Chiefs selected him in the first round of the NFL draft.
