CAM volleyball sweeps Ankeny Christian Academy to head to Regional Semifinals

Sports

October 23rd, 2017 by admin

The CAM Cougars volleyball team picked up a 3-0 sweep over Ankeny Christian Academy on Monday night in Anita. The Cougars won 25-18, 25-12, 25-13 to advance to the Regional Semifinals on Thursday night. CAM will face Coon Rapids-Bayard in Coon Rapids on Thursday, after the Crusaders picked up a 3-0 sweep over Exira-EHK.

CAM got a good night from Madison Gettler who found the soft spot in the Eagles zone on a number of tips. She was also strong at the net with a number of key blocks on the night. CAM Head Coach Craig Fredin said his team played well at times but he was disappointed with the 8 hitting errors they had in the first set and the lull they had in the third period. He said he told the team they would have to put forth a better effort to have success on Thursday in the semifinal. The Cougars improve their record to 15-18 on the season with the win.

Ankeny Christian Academy sees their season end with a 10-17 record.

CAM and Coon Rapids-Bayard will meet on Thursday night at 7:00pm in the semifinal match-up that we will have for you on KJAN.

Here is the latest Mid-America sports news from The Associated Press

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Martin Truex Jr. overcame two early mistakes to win a wild playoff elimination race at Kansas Speedway on Sunday. It was an emotional victory for his Furniture Row Racing team following the death of a crew member. Kurt Busch was second while playoff contenders Kyle Larson, Matt Kenseth, Jamie McMurray and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. were eliminated.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas and Missouri finally got back together on the basketball court, teaming to raise money for hurricane relief in a “Showdown for Relief” exhibition. Devonte’ Graham scored 25 points in the Jayhawks’ 93-87 victory.

UNDATED (AP) — Iowa State is off to its best start in 15 years and on Sunday entered The Associated Press poll for the first time since 2005 at No. 25. This week the Cyclones play fourth-ranked TCU on homecoming for a share of first place in the Big 12. The resurgence comes after Iowa State has finished no higher than ninth in four of the six years since the Big 12 ended its divisional alignment.

SANDY, Utah (AP) — Luis Silva scored in the opening minutes and Real Salt Lake beat Sporting Kansas City 2-1 on Sunday in their regular-season finale. Real Salt Lake, which was winless in its first five games of the season and won just two of its first 11, finished one point out of the Western Conference playoffs

UNDATED (AP) — Notre Dame has cracked the top 10 of The Associated Press college football poll for the first time this season, coming in at No. 9, while Michigan has fallen out of the rankings for the first time in two years.

A week after a rash of upsets gave the poll a shake-up, the first eight teams in the Top 25 released Sunday were unchanged. Alabama remains a unanimous No. 1 in the media poll. Penn State is No. 2 and Georgia is No. 3. Undefeated TCU and Wisconsin round out the top five.

Notre Dame jumped four spots after beating Southern California 49-14 on Saturday night in South Bend, Indiana. Michigan played in the weekend’s other big game and lost to Penn State 42-13. The Wolverines (5-2) had been 19th.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — Danny Donley made four field goals, Sean Lynch made two interceptions, and Drake topped Marist 19-14 on Saturday. Drake finished with fewer total yards, 333 to Marist’s 356, but forced three turnovers and sealed the win with a minute left in the game by recovering an onside kick. Here is the latest Mid-America sports news from The Associated Press

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Kyle Kempt threw three touchdown passes and Iowa State dumped Texas Tech 31-13 on Saturday. Texas Tech coach and chief offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury broke away from his offensive trends and the Cyclones made him pay.

EVENSTON, Ill. (AP) — Quarterback Clayton Thorson scored on a 1-yard run and Northwestern rallied from a sluggish first half for a 17-10 overtime victory over Iowa. Thorson’s score was set up by a 23-yard reception by running back Justin Jackson, who broke three tackles on the play to give the Wildcats (4-3, 2-2 in the Big Ten) a first down at the 1-yard line.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Martin Truex Jr. already looks like the coolest cat at the club, but he has good reason to be relaxed this weekend. He’s already clinched a spot in the next round of NASCAR’s playoffs, and he qualified on the pole for Sunday’s race at Kansas. He also always seem to run up front at the track, taking away much of the pressure of the playoffs.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Christopher Bell raced to his first NASCAR Xfinity Series victory, beating dominant Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Erik Jones after they made contract with four laps left at Kansas Speedway. Bell led for just four laps, hanging in second place behind Jones for much of the race before sliding in front of him shortly before the collision. Jones was coming from the top of the track when he hit the back of Bell’s car.
