NEW YORK (AP) — Kansas City first baseman Eric Hosmer, third baseman Mike Moustakas and outfielder Lorenzo Cain are among nine free agents who have received $17.4 million qualifying offers from their teams. Chicago Cubs pitchers Jake Arrieta and Wade Davis also received the offers, as did Tampa Bay pitcher Alex Cobb, Colorado closer Greg Holland, St. Louis pitcher Lance Lynn and Cleveland first baseman Carlos Santana. Players have until Nov. 16 to accept.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa forward Nicholas Baer, the Big Ten’s reigning Sixth Man of the Year, could miss up to a month after breaking his left pinky finger. The Hawkeyes announced on Monday that Baer suffered the injury in practice over the weekend. Baer won’t need surgery, but he’ll have to sit for 3-to-4 weeks. Baer averaged team highs in rebounding, steals and blocked shots per game in 2016-17 and was in position to jump into the starting lineup before he got hurt.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — No. 6 Wisconsin will be without top receiver Quintez Cephus for its game Saturday against No. 25 Iowa. Cephus injured his right leg in a 45-17 win over the weekend at Indiana. The Badgers say that inside linebacker Chris Orr also will miss the Iowa game with a right leg injury.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals have released veteran right-hander Trevor Rosenthal and extended a qualifying offer to pitcher Lance Lynn. The 27-year-old Rosenthal had Tommy John surgery this summer and could miss the entire 2018 season. He went 3-4 with a 3.40 ERA and 11 saves this year in his sixth season with the Cardinals.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Royals have extended qualifying offers to outfielder Lorenzo Cain, first baseman Eric Hosmer and third baseman Mike Moustakas. Starting pitcher Ian Kennedy did not opt out of the remaining three years and $49 million left on his contract. Fellow pitcher Mike Minor declined his $10 million mutual option.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — For the first time in more than a month, Iowa State is trying to bounce back from a loss. The 24th-ranked Cyclones are already bowl eligible with six wins. They have a shot to reach the Big 12 championship game if they win the rest of their games. Iowa State hosts No. 12 Oklahoma State on Saturday, followed by road games at Baylor and Kansas State.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska will go into its last three regular-season games needing to win two to achieve the six victories necessary to be eligible for a bowl. The Cornhuskers have played in nine straight bowls. Since 1969, the only years they didn’t go to a bowl were 2004 and 2007. The Huskers visit Minnesota this Saturday.

UNDATED (AP) — Michigan State’s Miles Bridges headlines The Associated Press preseason All-America team. The 6-foot-7 sophomore is the leading vote-getter with 61 votes from the 65-member national media panel that selects the weekly AP Top 25 poll. Notre Dame’s Bonzie Colson, Arizona’s Allonzo Trier, Villanova’s Jalen Brunson and Missouri freshman Michael Porter Jr. rounded out the team released Monday.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs have extended qualifying offers to pitchers Jake Arrieta and Wade Davis, ensuring they will receive draft pick compensation if they sign with another team.

Chicago also claimed right-hander Cory Mazzoni off waivers from the San Diego Padres on Monday. Outfielder Leonys Martín was assigned to Triple-A Iowa, and the Cubs also selected pitcher Matt Carasiti’s contract from their top farm club.

Arrieta, who won the NL Cy Young Award in 2015, went 14-10 with a 3.53 ERA in 30 starts this year. Davis, who was acquired in a trade with Kansas City last December, had 32 saves last season and was an All-Star for the third straight year.

Arrieta and Davis have until Nov. 16 to make a decision on the $17.4 million, one-year qualifying offer. Both players are expected to decline the proposal.

The Atlantic Trojans Girls Swimming team had three top 6 finishes at the State Swim Meet in Marshalltown on Saturday. Atlantic took 4th in the 200yd Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:38.48. That team was comprised of Cambry Miller, Kathryn Landhuis, Clare Christensen, and Mycala Kickland. Atlantic took 6th in the 200yd Medley Relay with a time of 1:48.40. Annamaria Lowary, Jessica Hartwig, Clare Christensen, and Mycala Kickland comprised that team.

Jessica Hartwig took a 4th place finish in the 100yd Breastroke finals with a time of 1:05.34. Hartwig also was 23rd in the 200yd Individual Medley.

Other finishes for the Trojans included: Cambry Miller 22nd in the 200yd Freestyle and 21st in the 100yd Freestyle. Kathryn Landhuis was 21st in the 50yd Freestyle. Atlantic also took 10th in the 400yd Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:37.67. That team was Cambry Miller, Annamaria Lowary, Clare Christensen, and Mycala Kickland.

The Trojans finished 9th overall as a team with 85 points. Ames was the champ with 384.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Ezekiel Elliott ran for the go-ahead touchdown after another reprieve from his six-game suspension and the Dallas Cowboys overcame Tyreek Hill’s improbable last-play touchdown in the first half, beating the Kansas City Chiefs 28-17 on Sunday.

Elliott’s 2-yard plunge in the third quarter came after the Chiefs turned a 14-3 deficit into a 17-14 advantage, sparked by Hill’s weaving 56-yard catch with the first-half clock expired and seven Dallas defenders inside their 25 trying to prevent the score.

Last year’s NFL rushing champion as a rookie, Elliott had 93 yards, ending a streak of three straight 100-yard games but outgaining Kareem Hunt, this year’s rushing leader in his first season entering the game.

Chiefs: Bye next week, at New York Giants on Nov. 19.

UNDATED (AP) — Notre Dame and Clemson climbed while Ohio State and Penn State tumbled out of the top 10, leaving the latest Associated Press college football poll looking a lot like the College Football Playoff rankings — with one big difference.

Alabama remained No. 1 in the AP Top 25 on Sunday, as it has been since the preseason. No. 2 Georgia picked up three more first-place votes for a total of five. In the playoff rankings, Georgia is No. 1 and Alabama is No. 2.

Notre Dame moved up two spots in to No. 3 and Clemson did the same to No. 4. Oklahoma jumped three spots to No. 5, leaving those three in the same order as the selection committee had them on Tuesday.

Unbeaten Wisconsin slipped two spots to No. 6 but is now the highest ranked team in the Big Ten. Ohio State fell eight spots to No. 11 after getting blown out at Iowa and Penn State dropped nine to No. 16 after spending all season in the top 10.

Iowa State dropped from 14th place to 24th, followed by previously unranked Iowa, which comes in 25th place.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Anthony Lawrence threw for 326 yards and four touchdowns and San Diego clinched at least a tie for the Pioneer League title with its 19th consecutive league win, 45-15 over Drake on Saturday. Lawrence was 27-of-36 passing with touchdowns of 7 yards to Ross Dwelley, 11 to Michael Bandy, 3 to Zach Holland and 1 to Justin Priest.

The Toreros (7-2, 6-0) went 72 yards in nine plays after the opening kickoff for Dwelley’s touchdown. The Bulldogs (5-4, 4-2) answered with an 11-play, 68-yard drive capped by Grant Kraemer’s 5-yard TD pass to Tyler Updegraff.

Bandy’s score came late in the second quarter and started a string 24 straight points and scores on six straight drives. The last two touchdowns were a 1-yard run from Joseph Binda and a 13-yarder by Emilio Martinez, who finished with 99 yards on 16 carries.

Kraemer finished 15 of 28 for 224 yards and two touchdowns, including an 18-yarder to Steven Doran early in the fourth quarter. Doran had seven receptions for 141 yards.
