ST. LOUIS (AP) — Kolten Wong hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning, capping the St. Louis Cardinals rally and giving them an 8-6 win over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday. The win is the fourth in a row for the Cardinals, and it came after they rallied from two runs down in the ninth inning off Chicago closer Brandon Morrow.
Wong’s game-ending home run is the third of his career, his first since a victory over Pittsburgh on May 3, 2015. It came after Paul DeJong walked and then Wong sent the 1-1 pitch from Luke Farrell (1-1) into the right field seats for the game winner.
Marcell Ozuna tied the game in the ninth inning with a two-run double off Morrow, who allowed his first runs of the season. Tyler Lyons (1-0) earned the win in relief after Bud Norris exited with an injury in the top of the 10th inning.
Anthony Rizzo homered for the third time in four games for the Cubs, who lost for a season-high fourth time in a row despite scoring more than three runs in a game for the first time since April 24th. Javier Baez added his eighth home run for Chicago in the loss.
INJURED CARDINALS
Center fielder Tommy Pham, catcher Yadier Molina and Norris were all taken out of Saturday’s game with injuries. Pham, who is hitting .327 and has scored 24 runs this season, was taken out in the second inning with right groin tightness. Molina was lifted in the eighth inning after being hit in the groin by a tipped 102-mph pitch from reliever Jordan Hicks, and Norris had to exit after getting the first two outs of the 10th.
St. Louis manager Mike Matheny said reliever Dominic Leone is likely headed to the disabled list after exiting Friday night’s game during warmups with cramping in his right biceps. Matheny said Leone’s arm is “structurally” healthy, and that the Cardinals wanted to wait a day before making a roster move to see how Leone responded. Leone is 1-2 with a 4.15 ERA in 15 appearances this season.
UP NEXT: Michael Wacha has allowed two or fewer runs in four of his last five starts, and he’ll get the start for St. Louis against the Cubs on Sunday night. The right-hander is 4-1 with a 3.62 ERA this season.

Iowa baseball coach Rick Heller says they are still waiting to find out how severe the injury to starting pitcher Cole McDonald is but they know he won’t be pitching in this weekend’s series against 17th ranked Oklahoma State. McDonald was lifted in the fourth inning on Sunday’s win against seventh ranked Michigan with elbow discomfort and sophomore Grant Judkins may be the one to replace him in the rotation.
It may be a non-conference series but Heller says with the Hawkeyes being considered a bubble team for the NCAA Tournament it carries added weight.
Heller says it is the Hawkeye’s final chance of the regular season to build their tournament resume.
The series opens with a single game tonight (Friday night).

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Lucas Duda had three hits and drove in four, the Royals pounded 3 homers and Kansas City beat the Detroit Tigers 10-6 to open their four-game series. Salvador Perez, Jorge Soler and Alex Gordon each went deep for the Royals. Nick Castellanos had a homer for Detroit, which lost slugging DH Miguel Cabrera to a hamstring injury.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Former Nebraska quarterback Dennis Claridge has died. The university announced his death at age 76 and said he had cancer. Claridge helped College Football Hall of Fame coach Bob Devaney turn a moribund program into a national power in the early 1960s. He was a backup for the Green Bay Packers before moving back to Lincoln and setting up an orthodontics practice.
Iowa native Michael Annett is looking for a breakout race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and hopes Saturday’s OneMain Financial 200 at Dover is the one. Through nine events Annett is 14th in the points and still search for his first top ten finish.
Annett says one race can change an entire season.
Annett says while it has been a frustrating start to the season he is confident they will get it turned around.

Atlantic played well at the Sioux City East Golf Tournament Wednesday. Complete tourney results were not available, but Atlantic was second in the team scoring, shooting a 394. Alyssa Ginther led the team with the low round of 83, good for runner-up medalist honors. Baylee Newell placed fourth overall carding a 94. Hannah Alf shot 105 and Anna Wieser shot 112.
