A number of area Girls Regional Soccer games were postponed from Tuesday to Wednesday night. Here is a look at scores from games on Tuesday and the schedule for area games tonight. Class 1A Schools are playing Regional Quarterfinals and Class 2A Schools are playing Regional Semifinals.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Michael Wacha pitched two-hit ball for 6 2/3 innings and the St. Louis Cardinals, boosted by three home runs, beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-1 victory. Harrison Bader, Matt Carpenter and Francisco Pena homered to help St. Louis top the NL Central leaders.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Alcides Escobar homered with two outs in the 14th inning to give the Kansas City Royals a 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Escobar hit a 3-1 pitch from Taylor Rogers to left field, ending a game that took 4 hours, 12 minutes.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa guard Isaiah Moss says he’ll be back for his junior season with the Hawkeyes in 2018-19. Moss announced he intends to return to Iowa City after getting feedback from NBA personnel on his future in the league. Moss averaged 11.1 points a game last season and was second on the team in steals. Moss wasn’t expected to be picked in the upcoming draft.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif has graduated from McGill University’s medical school. Duvernay-Tardif has been spending his offseasons the past few years doing school work and hospital rotations. He plans to pursue medicine once his playing days are over. He signed a $41.25 million five-year deal with Kansas City last offseason.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Von Miller’s pass rushing summit was such a hit last year and he’s going bigger and better this year. The Denver Broncos superstar secured a title sponsor for his gathering of the NFL’s elite pass rushers next month. Miller said he’ll hold his second camp in Brandon, Missouri during his summer break.

Class 1A and 4A State Girls Golf experience weather delays

The Class 4A and 1A State Girls Golf Tournaments have been hampered by lightning delays on day one. Both tournaments are being played in Marshalltown and were suspended around 1:00pm for lighting in the area and had not resumed as of 4:45pm. Only a few rounds had been completed before the delay set in.

Kuemper Catholic girls golf sits 8th after first day of 2A State Tournament

The Kuemper Catholic girls golf team sits in 8th place out of 10 teams after day one of the Class 2A State Golf Tournament at Lake Panorama National Golf Course. The Knights shot an opening team round of +114. Van Meter shot a +73 team total to grab the day one lead.

Kuemper’s Katie Schweers is the top area golfer after day one with a +24, 96. Dike-New Hartford’s Morgan Weber and Alta-Aurelia’s Annika Patton shot +6, 78’s to lead the tourney.

Isaiah Moss returning to Iowa in ’18-19

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa guard Isaiah Moss says he’ll be back for his junior season with the Hawkeyes in 2018-19. Moss announced on Tuesday he intends to return to Iowa City after getting feedback from NBA personnel on his future in the league.

Moss averaged 11.1 points a game last season and was second on the team in steals. But Moss wasn’t expected to be picked in the upcoming draft. Iowa coach Fran McCaffery says the experience was a positive one for Moss, who could be counted on for even more production next season depending on what star Tyler Cook decides about his future.

Cook is expected to announce whether he’s returning to Iowa on Wednesday.

Atlantic’s Alyssa Ginther 4th after day 1 at 3A Girls State Golf

Atlantic’s Alyssa Ginther sits in 4th place after day one of competition at the Class 3A Girls State Golf Tournament at Coldwater Links in Ames. Ginther shot an opening round +8, 79 on Tuesday. The current leader is Britta Snyder of Gilbert who shot a -1, 70. Atlantic’s Baylee Newell is in 19th after shooting a +14, 85 on Tuesday.

Rylie Driskell of Creston and Somer Sinnard of Carroll are currently tied for 9th with opening rounds of +12, 83.

Creston sits in 3rd in the team race with a +62 team total on day one. Washington leads with a +50 total on day one. Carroll is in 8th with a +100 team total.

Atlantic boys tennis finishes with 4th place medal at State Team Tennis Tuesday

Atlantic will finish in 4th place in the Class 1A State Team Tennis Tournament. Atlantic fell in their Semifinal

match against Maharishi, Fairfield 5-1. The Trojans then fell to the Boone Toreadors in the Class 1A Team Tennis Consolation Final 5-2. Atlantic fell behind 4-2 after singles play and needed to win all three doubles matches in order to take third place but they came up short, with the #3 doubles team getting knocked off first.

The Trojans finish a very successful 2018 season with the 5th trip to the Final Four in school history and the 4th place medal. The duo of Grant Podhajsky and Cooper McDermott took home their second straight doubles medal on Saturday with a 6th place finish. Sophomore Nile Petersen also competed in singles play at State.

Atlantic falls in Boys State Tennis Final Four match against Maharishi

The Atlantic boys tennis team fell in their State Semifinal match on Tuesday morning against Maharishi, Fairfield 5-1. Maharishi clinched the win during singles play, so doubles matches were not played. Maharishi will advance to the State Championship match against Dubuque Wahlert. Wahlert swept past Boone in the other Semifinal 5-0 in singles play.

Atlantic will now play in the Consolation Final against Boone.

Girls State Golf tees up today

The Girls State Golf Tournaments begin today for all four classes.

The Class 1A State Tournament is being played at American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown. Griswold is competing as a team. Other local individuals include Jacey Anthofer of Exira-EHK, Sammi Jahde of CAM, and Kayla Chapman of Treynor.

Class 2A is being contested at Lake Panorama National Golf Course. Kuemper Catholic is competing in the team tournament. Other individuals include Madison Fear of Panorama and Gracie Brown of Clarinda.

Class 3A is playing at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames. Creston and Carroll are playing in the team race. Other individuals include Atlantic’s Alyssa Ginther and Baylee Newell. Ellen Keast of Harlan will also be competing individually.

Class 4A is teeing it up at Elmwood Country Club in Marshalltown. No local teams or individuals are competing in 4A.
