Former Iowa standout Micah Hyde says an injury that forced him to miss nearly all of last season helped give him perspective. The Buffalo Bills safety is preparing for his 11th season in the NFL after being sidelined last year with a week two neck injury.

Hyde says he has not changed how he prepares for the season despite last year’s injury.

Hyde began his career in Green Bay and twice has been named second team All-Pro.

For the first time since 2019 the Summer Iowa Games are returning to normal. The event was forced to deal with the COVID pandemic in 2020 and 2021 and last year was held in conjunction with the delayed State Games of America.

That’s spokesman Cory Kennedy who says the event will be offering more than 40 sports this summer.

Kennedy says they will be returning to a more condensed schedule this year.

Kennedy says the change in the schedule will give the event a more Olympic style feel. Events will be held July seventh through the 16th.

The Opening Ceremonies in Ames will be Friday, July 14th.

ALLEMAN, Iowa (May 31, 2023) – Former Iowa State Cyclone, and All-Pro New York Jets wide receiver, Allen Lazard will host the 2nd Annual Allen Lazard Youth Football Camp at North Polk Stadium in Alleman on June 24th from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM.

Lazard and camp coaches will provide a day of fun and football, where attendees will interact with Lazard, enjoy skills & drills, participate in contests, earn awards, and play non-contact games. The camp is open to all youth aged eight to 16. Each camper will receive a t-shirt, a group photo auto session with Lazard, and items from camp sponsors.

Featuring special guest coach Jake Hummel, a former Dowling Highschool Graduate, Iowa State Cyclone and Current LA Rams Linebacker.

The 2023 boys state team tennis tournaments will begin on Wednesday and finish on Thursday. Quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be played Wednesday and third place and championship matches on Thursday. Class 1A is playing at Hawkeye Tennis and Rec Center in Iowa City and Class 2A is playing at Waukee Northwest High School.
