…FREEZE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8-AM CDT THIS MORNING…

TEMPERATURES WILL CONTINUE TO DROP INTO THE MIDDLE 20S TO LOWER 30S THIS MORNING AND BEGIN TO RISE ABOVE FREEZING SHORTLY AFTER SUNRISE. EXPOSED PLANTS AND TENDER VEGETATION ARE LIKELY TO SUFFER FREEZE DAMAGE OR BE KILLED BY THE EXTENDED PERIOD OF BELOW FREEZING TEMPERATURES.  A FREEZE WARNING MEANS SUB-FREEZING TEMPERATURES ARE IMMINENT OR HIGHLY LIKELY. THESE CONDITIONS WILL KILL CROPS AND OTHER SENSITIVE VEGETATION.

Today: Widespread frost before 8am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 67. Light and variable wind.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 38. Light and variable wind.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 75. Light south wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning.

Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 48. Light and variable wind.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Calm wind becoming north northeast 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 52.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 72.

Wednesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51.

AREA COUNTIES: MADISON-UNION-RINGGOLD-

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DES MOINES HAS ISSUED A FROST ADVISORY…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM TO 8 AM CDT SUNDAY. THE FREEZE WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT. OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE LOW TO MID 30S ARE EXPECTED BY EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. EXPOSED PLANTS AND TENDER VEGETATION MAY SUFFER FREEZE DAMAGE OR BE KILLED. PEOPLE INTERESTED IN PROTECTING THEIR PLANTS NEED TO TAKE ACTION BY THIS EVENING.

A FROST ADVISORY MEANS THAT FROST IS POSSIBLE. SENSITIVE OUTDOOR PLANTS MAY BE KILLED IF LEFT UNCOVERED. A FREEZE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE REST OF THE KJAN LISTENING AREA, FROM 1-A.M. SUNDAY THROUGH ABOUT 9-A.M.

Parts of Iowa, Nebraska under freeze warning

Break out the blankets and hot cocoa. The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for parts of Iowa and Nebraska.  A freeze warning is in effect from 1-a.m. Sunday through about 9-a.m., for most of the KJAN listening area, as well as eastern and north-central Nebraska.

In Iowa, overnight lows are expected to dip to as low as 26 degrees in the freeze-warning areas. In Nebraska, lows are expected to be mainly in the lower 30s, but could drop to the upper 20s in the north-central and northeast areas. The Weather Service expects temperatures to rise into the upper 50s in the western and central Iowa, and into the 60s in eastern Nebraska.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DES MOINES HAS ISSUED A FREEZE WATCH…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM LATE SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING. ON SATURDAY NIGHT AND EARLY SUNDAY MORNING TEMPERATURES ARE LIKELY TO FALL BELOW 32 DEGREES ACROSS MUCH OF WESTERN…NORTHERN AND EAST CENTRAL IOWA. SOME LOCATIONS IN THE NISHNABOTNA RIVER VALLEY AND NORTHERN IOWA COULD FALL INTO THE UPPER 20S.

FROM THE DES MOINES METRO AREA INTO SOUTH CENTRAL IOWA…FREEZING TEMPERATURES MAY BE MORE LOCALIZED…BUT A FROST IS LIKELY. EXPOSED PLANTS AND TENDER VEGETATION ARE LIKELY TO SUFFER FREEZE DAMAGE OR BE KILLED.
