Police in Creston say no injuries were reported after an SUV hit another SUV in a restaurant parking lot late Sunday morning. Officials say 85-year old Marvin Ringgberg, of Shannon City, was attempting to park in the Family Restaurant parking lot at around 11:36-a.m., when he was unable to find his brake while attempting to park. Ringgberg’s 2010 Chevy Equinox rolled into the rear of a legally parked 2007 Ford Edge, causing a total of $3,000 damage. No citations were issued.

Police in Red Oak, Sunday, arrested a man for allegedly assaulting a Peace Officer. 19-year old Tyler Austin Sowers, of Red Oak, was taken into custody at around 2:15-p.m. in the 100 block of W. Coolbaugh Street. Sowers was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $1,000 bond.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — Officials and merchants in Council Bluffs hope a $5.7 million development in the city’s key commercial district may help attract businesses from Omaha, Nebraska. The Omaha World-Herald reports that the Rise residential and commercial building is set to open next spring. The almost 27,000-square-foot project will have 24 apartments, ground-level retail and dining space.

Ryan Spellman is with J Development, a partner in the project. Spellman says the building will feature a contemporary style to help attract a young population in Council Bluffs. Spellman says the one-bedroom units will lease for between $850 and $950.

Lori Shields is a spokeswoman for the Council Bluffs Area Chamber of Commerce. She says the project is part of a larger effort to revitalize the area.

A collision between two motorcycles Saturday night in southern Iowa’s Decatur County has left two people dead. The Iowa State Patrol reports 29-year old Alex Naylor, of Lineville, and 33-year old Cody Evans, of Altoona, died in the crash that happened at around 10-p.m. Saturday.

Officials say a 2004 Honda motorcycle being operated by Alex Naylor was traveling south on 302nd Avenue in the wrong lane, at the same time a Yamaha cycle operated by Cody Evans was traveling north. The cycles collided head-on south of Lineville Road. Both motorcyclists died at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.

A traffic stop early this (Sunday) morning in Adams County, resulted in the arrest of a man on an OWI charges. 50-year old Davin Matthew Perrin, of Corning, was arrested following the traffic stop that occurred at around 12:04-a.m., near the intersection of 255th and Grove Avenue. Perrin failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Test and was placed under arrest for Operating While Intoxicated/2nd offense. He was being held in the Adams County Jail on a $2,000 cash only bond.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A fourth person has been arrested in the July 7 shooting death of an Omaha man. Omaha police say 37-year-old Jason Rankin was arrested Friday in Iowa on unrelated charges and is being held on a Nebraska warrant charging him with first-degree murder in the death of 40-year-old Billy Allen Walker.

The arrest came two days after another man, 35-year-old Mark Gonzales, was arrested on warrant charging him with accessory to a felony in Walker’s death. On July 13, a couple was arrested in Texas in the case. Twenty-nine-year-old Adrian Ixta is charged with first-degree murder and weapons counts and 26-year-old Milea Ixta is charged as an accessory.

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (AP) — Officials are searching for the missing driver of a delivery truck that crashed into the Wapsipinicon River near Independence in eastern Iowa. The Courier reports that the mostly-submerged truck was found Friday morning by kayakers on the river. There was no sign of the driver. Authorities searched the area Friday, and the truck was removed from the river.

SUMNER, Iowa (AP) — Sumner city officials are working to deal with flooding that left some streets impassable and the post office flooded. And they’re doing it in the dark. The Courier reports the city of about 2,000 located some 35 miles northeast of Waterloo was without power most of Saturday following reports of as much as 10 inches of rain falling in 24 hours. The city’s main electrical carrier was down Saturday, and the municipal light plant that acts is a backup is flooded.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — An employee of a Sioux City steel business has died after being pinned by a truck at his workplace. The Sioux City Journal reports that the man was pushed between storage racks inside TriView Steel and Supply on Friday when another person accidentally backed a vehicle into him. The man, who has not yet been identified, was taken to a Sioux City hospital, where he later died.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A parolee accused of shooting and killing an Iowa City taxi driver last month is being held on $1 million bond. The Press-Citizen report that the cash-only bond was set for 41-year-old Curtis Cortez Jones on Friday. . Jones has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 46-year-old cab driver Ricky Ray Lillie, who was found dead June 28 in his cab.
