Officials with the Council Bluffs Police Department report two people were injured during a vehicle versus motorcycle collision that took place a little after 8:30-p.m., Sunday, at N. 27th and W. Broadway Streets. Authorities say a westbound vehicle attempting to turn south onto 27th St collided with a motorcycle traveling eastbound on West Broadway St.
The driver of the vehicle, 18-year old Dominick Kass, suffered minor injuries and was transported from the scene by private vehicle. The driver of the motorcycle was transported to Nebraska Medicine by CBFD and has unknown serious injuries. Their name was not immediately released, and pending notification of family.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes is off to a record-setting start for the surprising Chiefs. Mahomes threw for six touchdowns in a 42-37 victory over Pittsburgh and now has 10 touchdown passes through two games, the most ever through the first two weeks of the season. Pittsburgh’s defense rarely slowed the Chiefs down and looked a step behind while giving up six touchdown passes for the second time in the franchise’s 86-year history.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Adam Wainwright pitched two-hit ball over six innings for his first win in five months, Marcell Ozuna homered and the St. Louis Cardinals salvaged the finale of a four-game series with a 5-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cardinals snapped a season-high four-game losing streak and moved into a tie for the second National League wild card with the Dodgers, who slipped a half-game behind Colorado for the NL West lead.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Tyler Austin hit one of Minnesota’s four home runs, made a spectacular catch while flipping into the dugout and helped the Twins to a 9-6 victory over the Royals on Sunday that avoided a four-game sweep. Kyle Gibson earned the win despite a shaky start, and Royals reliever Jerry Vasto was saddled with the loss after a lousy performance in relief.

ANKENY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa authorities are investigating a fatal police shooting in the Des Moines suburb of Ankeny. The Des Moines Register reports Ankeny Police Lt. Brian Kroska says an officer fatally shot a man suspected of robbing a Hy-Vee gas station Saturday after he pointed a handgun at the officer.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe is going to Iowa this week to try to get fellow Democrats fired up ahead of November’s elections. The Washington Post reports that McAuliffe plans to visit Des Moines on Tuesday. In a written statement, McAuliffe said Democrats can’t afford “to sit on the sidelines when the heart and soul of our country is on the line.”
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — A man previously arrested on suspicion of participating in a robbery that led to the stabbing death at a Council Bluffs homeless shelter has now been charged with first-degree murder in the case. Council Bluffs police say 20-year-old James Michael McCauley was served with a warrant for the upgraded charge on Thursday for the March death of 44-year-old Lee Johnson. McCauley was served at the Pottawattamie County Jail, where he was being held on the robbery charge.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A jury has convicted a Des Moines man of first-degree murder and burglary in the shooting death last year of his estranged wife. The Des Moines Register reports that 51-year-old Harold Dudley was found guilty Friday in the June 2017 death of 36-year-old Mary Dudley, of Des Moines. Prosecutors showed videos that captured Harold Dudley peering around a corner at his wife’s apartment holding a handgun before he kicked in her door and fired six times.
A handful of area school district Boards of Education will meet Monday evening during regular sessions. In each case, they will elect a Board President, Vice-President and set other administrative matters for the 2018-19 School Year.
In Griswold, the Board meets at 5:30-p.m. and will hear updates on construction projects, hold the second-reading of Board Policies, and act on approving a Gym Floor Maintenance Contract, as well as take possible action with regard to student activity passes.
The Exira/EHK School Board meeting gets underway a 6-p.m. Monday, and includes discussion/possible action on: Personnel Hires, Transfers/Resignations, etc.; the repair or replacement of a skylight in the Commons Area, among other matters.
The CAM School Board meets at 6:30-p.m., and is set to discuss/act on: Facility Projects; Resignations/contracts and several administrative matters.
And, the Audubon School Board will discuss and/or act on: The appointment of a Truancy Officer; Administrative Early Retirement and Future Administrative needs. Their meeting begins at 7-p.m.
The City of Atlantic’s Parks and Recreation Department Board of Directors will meet Monday evening in the City Council’s Chambers at City Hall. Parks and Rec Director Seth Staashelm will report to the Board on the resignation of Park Foreman Ron Flory, who was hired for the position in July. He’ll also talk about the Healthiest Walk at Schildberg Park on Oct. 6th, and provide an update on the Schildberg Campground, and well as the Fall Turf Maintenance Plan. Other updates include those pertaining to the West Playground at the Schildberg Park, Sunnyside Park entrance sign, and an update on the Nishna Park.
The Board will act on a Park Shelter Reservation Proposal, also. Their meeting begins 5:15-p.m., Monday.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Patrick Mahomes tied a franchise record with six touchdown passes and the Kansas City Chiefs put on an impressive offensive display in a 42-37 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
The 22-year-old Mahomes finished 23 of 28 for 326 yards in his third career start as the Chiefs (2-0) won in Pittsburgh for the first time since 1986. Mahomes has 10 touchdown passes through two weeks, the most ever by a quarterback through two games in NFL history. Trevor Kelce caught seven passes for 109 yards and two scores. Tyreek Hill, Chris Conley, Kareem Hunt and Demarcus Robinson also hauled in touchdown passes as the Chiefs recovered in the second half after blowing an early 21-point lead.
Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger shook off an achy right elbow that limited him in practice during the week, completing 39 of 60 passes for 452 yards and three touchdowns. The 36-year-old also leapt into the end zone for a 3-yard score with 1:59 to go that got the Steelers (0-1-1) within five. Rather than attempt an onside kick, Pittsburgh sent it deep. Two runs by Hunt gave Kansas City a big first down and Steelers linebacker Tyler Matakevich was flagged for roughing the punter as the Chiefs ended a six-game losing streak in Pittsburgh.
It might be the first of several turnarounds by the Chiefs, who made the surprising decision trade away veteran Alex Smith in the offseason and place the franchise in the hands of untested but strong-armed Mahomes. So far, so very, very good. A week after throwing for four scores in a victory over the Chargers, Mahomes picked up right where he left off. He needed just 13 minutes to toss three touchdowns as the Chiefs built a quick 21-0 lead, the last one a flip in the flat to Hunt in which the running back walked through a tackle by rookie safety Terrell Edmunds and into the end zone.
The six touchdown passes by Mahomes tied the most ever allowed by the Steelers in franchise history. Buffalo Bills Hall of Famer Jim Kelly threw six against Pittsburgh in 1991. … Pittsburgh tight end Jesse James set a career-high with 138 yards receiving. … Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown caught nine passes for 67 yards, becoming the fastest player in NFL history to cross the 750-career reception total (117 games). … Roethlisberger moved past John Elway and into seventh for career passing yards. … The Chiefs scored six touchdowns and had just 27:49 time of possession. Their longest scoring drive lasted just 3:57. … Mahomes’ six scores tied Len Dawson’s franchise mark set in 1964 against Denver when the Chiefs played in the American Football League.
INJURIES:
Chiefs: Get well Eric Berry. The veteran safety remains out with a sore heel and Kansas City’s defensive backfield hasn’t exactly stepped up in his absence. The Chiefs have allowed 870 yards in the air through two games. Part of the blame — if that’s the word — can be placed on opponents playing catch-up after getting buried early by Mahomes and company.

ANKENY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa authorities are investigating a fatal police shooting in the Des Moines suburb of Ankeny. The Des Moines Register reports Ankeny Police Lt. Brian Kroska says an officer fatally shot a man suspected of robbing a Hy-Vee gas station Saturday after he pointed a handgun at the officer.
Kroska says officers responded to the robbery call around 4:30 Saturday afternoon and found the suspect a couple blocks away near another gas station. That’s when the suspect pointed the gun.
Police didn’t immediately release the identities of either the suspect or the officer.
The officer will remain on paid leave while the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation reviews the shooting.
