A traffic stop in Adams County just before 1-a.m. today (Monday), resulted in two people from Union County being arrested on drug charges. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office reports the driver of the vehicle, Shane White, of Creston, was arrested for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving Under Suspension and Operating a vehicle without a required interlock device. A passenger, Tashina Martwick, also of Creston, was arrested for Possession of Paraphernalia.

URBANDALE, Iowa (AP) — A central Iowa couple face charges after police say they left their 9-month-old baby home alone for hours to go to a bar. Television station KCCI reports that police arrested 22-year-old Bryan Austin McCrea Bozarth and 20-year-old Ashley Lee Routh King on Friday. Each has been charged with child endangerment, and King also faces an underage drinking charge.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A lawsuit has been filed seeking to represent hundreds of victims of a former Iowa youth basketball coach now facing 15 to 180 years in prison for sexually exploiting them. The lawsuit was filed Friday by law firm Grefe & Sidney and names as defendants former Iowa Barnstormers coach Greg Stephen, the Barnstormers organization and its supervising organization, the Amateur Athletic Union. Stephen pleaded guilty last month to sexual exploitation and child porn charges and is awaiting sentencing.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Officials in Iowa City are reminding residents to compost their fall pumpkins and leftover Halloween jack-o-lanterns instead of trashing them. To do this, residents are asked to put pumpkins with yard waste collection, which is composted. Residents who do not receive curbside services can take pumpkins at no cost to the City’s compost facility located at the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center.

Mahomes connected twice with Travis Kelce and once with Kareem Hunt, who added two scoring runs. Mahomes has 29 TDs in 10 career games, the best start by an NFL quarterback since 1950. The Browns lost their fourth straight and first since Hue Jackson was fired.
LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas fired football coach David Beaty, effective at the end of the season, ending a three-plus year tenure marked by modest improvement but just a handful of wins. The school announced the firing Sunday. Beaty has a career record of 6-39 with three wins against Power Five opponents. He will be paid $3 million under terms of his contract.

No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Clemson and No. 3 Notre Dame remained unchanged. No. 4 Michigan, No. 5 Georgia and No. 6 Oklahoma each moved up a spot. Iowa State was ranked for the first time this season. It’s one of five teams to move into the ranking. Washington, North Carolina State, Michigan State and Cincinnati reappeared.
Officials with Hy-Vee are warning people on social media about a survey scam. A post from Hy-Vee Corporate states “Please beware of a scam that has surfaced on social media. The post includes a fake “$80 off groceries” coupon at Hy-Vee stores. This is a scam and our stores are not able to honor this.” The company recommends “For the latest Hy-Vee deals, check out our weekly ad or monthly Mega ad, or download the Hy-Vee Deals app!”

CLEVELAND (AP) — Patrick Mahomes passed for 375 yards, threw three touchdown passes — two to Travis Kelce — and continued the best start by an NFL quarterback in 68 years as Kansas City’s impossible-to-handle offense kept rolling with a 37-21 win on Sunday over the Cleveland Browns, who played their first game since coach Hue Jackson’s firing.
Kareem Hunt had two scoring runs and one receiving for the Chiefs (8-1), who came in averaging 36.3 points per game with an offense overloaded with weapons for Mahomes. The 23-year-old used all of them in winning his first pro matchup against Baker Mayfield and the Browns (2-6-1).
Mahomes and Mayfield didn’t match their epic college meeting in 2016, when they combined for more than 1,700 yards in offense. But the Chiefs put on another impressive offensive show with 499 total yards, averaging 8.6 per snap. In his second season, Mahomes, who made just one start as a rookie, already has 29 TD passes and 3,185 yards, the most by any QB through 10 games since 1950. He has passed for at least 300 yards in eight straight games.

(IOWA CITY) – Officials with the Iowa Department of Corrections report 65-year old Russell Kenneth Fidler died from natural causes a little after 12:30-a.m. Saturday. Fidler, who had been incarcerated for the crime of Sexual Abuse, 2nd Degree from Audubon County, was pronounced dead at the University of Iowa Hospitals, where he had been taken due to a medical emergency.
Fidler’s incarceration in prison began on February 4, 2004. Fidler, originally from Villisca, was sentenced to 25 years in prison, without parole, following a jury conviction for the second-degree sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl with cognitive mental disabilities and attention deficit disorder, in April, 2003, at a residence in Kimballton.
The Atlantic girls swim team competed at State Meet in Marshalltown this weekend and came away with a12th place team finish with 63 points. Ames was the team champion with 372 points. The State Meet was held at the Marshalltown YWCA/YMCA.

MICHAEL N. HJULER, 59, of Audubon, died Thursday, Nov. 1st, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center, in Des Moines. Funeral services for MICHAEL HJULER will be held 10:30-a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6th, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, in Audubon. Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon has the arrangements.
Friends may call at the funeral home, where the family visitation is at 5-p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5th.
Burial will be in the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, northeast of Kimballton.
