WINTER STORM WATCH (UPDATED 11/25) —
Harrison and Monona Counties: WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 9-A.M. TUESDAY THROUGH 9-A.M. WEDNESDAY.

* WHAT…Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.

* IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Sac-Crawford and Carroll Counties: A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6-P.M. TUESDAY UNTIL NOON WEDNESDAY.

* WHAT…Moderate to Heavy snow with blustery winds. Near blizzard conditions possible. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 8 inches are forecast with the highest amounts anticipated near the Minnesota border. Wind gusts between 35 to 45 mph are likelywith potentially a few gusts nearing 50 mph.

* IMPACTS…Travel is likely to become very difficult with significant blowing snow reducing visibility and even leading to near blizzard conditions at times. In addition, slick and snow covered roads will lead to treacherous traveling conditions.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Those with Thanksgiving travel plans Tuesday night through Wednesday should take the necessary precautions and potentially find alternate routes or delay or move up travel plans if possible. If you must travel during the
storm, please remember to pack a winter survival kit in your vehicle in case you become stranded.

Yorktown man arrested in Red Oak Sunday night

Red Oak Police report a traffic stop Sunday night resulted in an arrest. 36-year old Aaron Duwayne Childs, of Yorktown, was arrested for Driving While Suspended. Police also determined his license had been suspended four times, for non-payment of Iowa fines and non-payment of child support. He was transported to the Montgomery County Jail and held on a $566 bond.

Missouri woman arrested on assault & drug charges in Adams County

A 9-1-1 call Sunday night to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office about an unwanted person attempting to gain entry into a residence, resulted in the arrest of a woman from Missouri. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office reports the 9-1-1 caller advised he had been assaulted and that the suspect had shattered a window of the home. When Deputies arrived on the scene, Linda Baker, of Independence, MO., was arrested for Domestic Assault, Criminal Mischief, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Drug Paraphernalia.

Sunday’s High in Atlantic was 57. Our Low this morning was 26. Last year on this date, the High in Atlantic was 29 and the Low was 14. The record High for Nov. 25th in Atlantic, was 71 in 1960. The Record Low was -6 in 1991.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Redshirt freshman CJ Fredrick scored a career-high 21 points, hitting all five of his 3s, and Iowa overwhelmed Cal Poly 85-59 for its third straight win. Luka Garza had 18 points with nine boards for the Hawkeyes in their final tuneup ahead of a stretch featuring significantly tougher opponents.

LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) — No. 3 Michigan State and No. 4 Kansas headline another strong Maui Invitational bracket. The Spartans and Jayhawks are in a field that includes UCLA, Georgia and Virginia Tech.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — In 1998, Shane Battier was cut by coach Rick Majerus’ Goodwill USA Team. On Sunday, both were inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. That happened right after the Duke standout’s freshman season and he used that as motivation throughout the rest of his college career.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Marcus Zegarowski scored 19 points and Ty-Shon Alexander scored 18 and Creighton beat North Florida 76-67. Mitch Ballock added 15 points and 11 rebounds and Damien Jefferson scored 12 for the Bluejays, now winners of three straight.

NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz posted 14 points as Liberty extended its season-opening winning streak to eight games, topping Kansas City 62-49 in the championship game of the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase. Scottie James had 12 points for Liberty (8-0) and Darius McGhee added 10 points.

Here is the latest Iowa news from The Associated Press at 3:45 a.m. CST

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a man died after his car slammed into a utility pole while he was fleeing from Cedar Rapids police. Cedar Rapids Police say the chase began around 10 p.m. Saturday when an officer tried to stop a BMW that was driving recklessly. The suspect fled south on Rockford Road at a high speed before the driver lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road into a utility pole. The driver died at the scene of the crash. The driver’s name wasn’t immediately released Sunday.

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Police are investigating a shooting in Waterloo that left one man dead and another man injured. Waterloo Police say the shooting was reported in an alley near an apartment complex around 6 p.m. Saturday. Officers found the men with several gunshot wounds near a parked car with shattered windows. One man died later at the hospital. The second man remains hospitalized. Few other details about the shooting were released. The victim’s name wasn’t immediately released on Sunday.

QUINCY, Ill. (AP) — A new outpatient clinic for veterans is set to open in Quincy. The (Quincy) Herald-Whig reports the 21,000-squre foot clinic will see its first patients Monday. The clinic is run by Iowa City VA Health Care System, which operates several clinics in Iowa and Illinois. Hundreds attended a ceremonial ribbon cutting Thursday.

DON PUTNAM, 98, of Oakland, died Sunday, Nov. 24th, at home. Funeral services for DON PUTNAM will be held 2-p.m. Wed., Nov. 27th, at the Oakland Community Building. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland has the arrangements.

Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday evening from 5:30 until 7:00 PM at the Oakland Community Building.

Interment will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery.

DON PUTNAM is survived by:

His children  – Lolly (Mike) of Council Bluffs, and Leon and Rick Putnam, of Oakland.

His sisters – Judy, Karen and Linda.

10 grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; other relatives and many, many friends.

EVERETT WENDT, 94, of Audubon (Svcs. 11/30/19)

EVERETT WENDT, 94, of Audubon, died Sunday, November 24, 2019, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon.  Funeral services for EVERETT WENDT will be held 10:30-a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30th, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield has the arrangements.

The family will greet friends on Friday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Online condolences may be left to the family at www.steenfunerals.com.

Burial is in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.  A luncheon will be held at the church following the committal services at the cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Everett Wendt memorial fund to be designated by the family at a later date.

His wife of 74 years – Wynona Wendt, of Audubon.

His daughters – Sherry Jo Coufal and Bobby Neal of Omaha, NE and Carol Root and Dave Kneeskern of Greenfield.

His sister – Genevieve Bishop of Lenexa, KS.

His brother – Ervin Wendt, of San Diego, CA.

2 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Iowa overwhelms Cal Poly 85-59

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Redshirt freshman CJ Fredrick scored a career-high 21 points, hitting all five of his 3s, and Iowa overwhelmed Cal Poly 85-59 on Sunday for its third straight win. Luka Garza had 18 points with nine boards for the Hawkeyes (4-1) in their final tuneup ahead of a stretch featuring significantly tougher opponents.

Iowa plays No. 12 Texas Tech, either Creighton or San Diego State, Syracuse, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa State and Cincinnati over its next seven games. The Hawkeyes got rolled by DePaul 93-78 at home on Nov. 11, its only matchup against a fellow high major so far.

Iowa Senior guard Jordan Bohannon sat out as a precaution due to hip soreness. Bohannon had offseason surgery on that hip, and it’s unclear if he’ll play the whole season or request a medical redshirt. Bohannon has played in four games so far, averaging seven points and two assists. Jack Nunge also didn’t play in the second half after suffering an injury late in the first half.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Near blizzard conditions may exist early Wednesday morning from the combination of falling snow and strong north winds. Be prepared very poor conditions early
Wednesday morning in the watch area.
