The Adair County Sheriff’s Office reports three arrests took place over the past week, including that of a Union County man who was taken into custody December 17th. 29-year old Scott Joseph Draman, of Creston, was arrested at the Greater Regional Hospital in Creston, on two Adair County warrants charging him with: (Felony) Domestic Abuse Assault by impeding air/blood flow, resulting in injury; Harassment in the 1st Degree; False Imprisonment, and Obstruction of Emergency Communications. Draman was being held in the Adair County Jail on a $10,000 cash-only bond.

On Dec. 21st, 19-year old Tye Michael Joint, of Redfield, was arrested in Stuart on a Story County warrant for Probation Violation, on an original charge of Public Intoxication. He was released later that same day on a $2,000 cash only bond.

And, on Dec. 16th, 37-year old Joseph Lee Reynolds, of Stuart, was arrested by an Iowa State Patrol Trooper, for Driving While Barred, after he was seen driving from a gas station to a restaurant, in Stuart. Reynolds was released that same day on a $2,000 cash or surety bond.

A single-vehicle accident in Madison County, Monday afternoon, resulted in injuries to four teenagers. The Iowa State Patrol reports the teens, two 14-year old females and two 16-year old males, were in a 2003 Chevy pickup truck driven by 16-year old James Brooks, of Winterset, when  the accident happened at around 1:35-p.m. in the area of 225th Street and Pammel Park Road, southwest of Winterset.

The Patrol says the pickup was westbound on 225th Street when it ran the stop sign at Pammel Park Road. The vehicle entered the south ditch of 225th Street. As it exited the ditch, the pickup rolled on the road and flipped, ejecting two of its passengers. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office reports three of the injured: 14-year old Tatum Scheuraman, 14-year old Destiny Cunningham, and 16-year old Joe Campbell, all of Winterset, were transported to hospitals in Des Moines. One of the 14-year olds (it’s not clear which) and Campbell were flown by LifeNet and Mercy One helicopters to the Methodist and Mercy Hospitals. Brooks was treated at the scene and released.

The accident remains under investigation. The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Winterset Police, Winterset Fire Department and the Madison County Ambulance.

CLIVE, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa woman who told police she intentionally ran over a teenager because she believed the girl was Mexican has been charged with another hit-and-run crash that hurt a 12-year-old boy. Des Moines police charged Nicole Franklin with attempted murder in connection with a Dec. 9 crash that occurred less than an hour before another hit-and-run in suburban Clive.

In the latest charge, Franklin was accused of hitting a boy in a Des Moines apartment complex. The boy suffered minor injuries. In the later incident, Franklin was charged with attempted murder after her vehicle hit Natalia Miranda as the 14-year-old was walking to school to watch a basketball game.

A Central Iowa man was injured Monday afternoon during a collision that involved two passenger cars and a semi, in Shelby County. The Iowa State Patrol reports the driver of a 2017 Dodge passenger car, 49-year old Bryan Law, of Des Moines, who was wearing a seat belt, was flown by LifeNet helicopter to the UNMC in Omaha, following the crash that happened at around 2:48-p.m. in a construction zone on Highway 59, just north of River Avenue, or about two-miles south of the Harlan Municipal Airport.

Law’s car, a 2011 Buick passenger car driven by 58-year old Christine Feldman, of Harlan, and a 2000 Peterbilt semi driven by 52-year old Darrel Case, of Tabor, were all stopped at the stop light in the construction zone, waiting for the light to turn green in order to proceed across the bridge.

Authorities say a 2015 Freightliner semi driven by Russwin Helsley, of Plattsmouth, NE., struck the Dodge, pushing it into other two vehicles. An investigation into the crash was ongoing as of the latest report.

A single-vehicle accident in Madison County, Monday afternoon, resulted in injuries to four teenagers. The Iowa State Patrol told WHO-TV, the teens were in a pickup truck that crashed at around 1:20-p.m. in the area of 225th Street and Pammel Park Road, southwest of Winterset.

Authorities say three of the teens were ejected from the truck. Two suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries, and were transported by helicopter to a hospital in Des Moines.  Two others suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

No other details are currently available.

(Radio Iowa) — An Iowa native and C-E-O of Boeing was forced to resign today (Monday),  as the company continues to deal with problems created by its 737 MAX aircraft.

The Boeing Board says Dennis Muilenburg will depart immediately and the current board chairman will become C-E-O on January 13th, The 55-year-old Muilenburg was born in Orange City and grew up in Sioux Center, and is a graduate of Iowa State University.

The company’s 737 MAX aircraft was grounded worldwide after two crashes killed an estimated 46 people. Boeing has struggled to get approval to fly the plane again.

(Radio Iowa) — The Attorney General has reached a settlement for refunds with the manufacturer of an ice scraper. The settlement says more than 280 Iowans bought a “Miracle Scraper” — and in doing so were unknowingly enrolled in an auto membership club. The scrapper cost 19-97 and those who bought one were then charged nine-dollars, 95 cents each month for the “V-I-P Auto Discount Club.”

The Attorney General sued the seller, Robert Schermerhorn of Dunedin, Florida in August, alleging he violated the Iowa Buyer Club Memberships Law and engaged in deceptive and unfair billing practices violating the Iowa Consumer Fraud Act. He agreed to the settlement that includes full refunds — but denied the allegations made in the lawsuit.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — In a victory for prosecutors, a judge has ruled that they can use key evidence against the man charged with killing University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts. Judge Joel Yates agreed with prosecutors that some statements made by Cristhian Bahena Rivera must be suppressed because they came during an interrogation after he was not read his full legal rights.

But Yates ruled that prosecutors can use information provided by Rivera that led them to the body of Tibbetts, who disappeared in July 2018 while out running in Brooklyn, Iowa. He also ruled that they can use key blood evidence.

The Harlan Police Department reports the arrest on December 17th, of 22-year old Brett Donald Keane, of Harlan. Keane was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying weapons, theft in the 2nd Degree, possession of burglar’s tools and driving while suspended.

On Dec. 20th, Harlan Police arrested 19-year old Kyle David Confere, of Harlan. He was charged with domestic abuse assault. The following day, 43-year old Jennifer Marie Rowedder, of Harlan, was arrested on for allegedly making false reports.
