The public is asked to call the Davenport Police Department at 563-326-6125 with any information related to her disappearance.”

Here is the latest Mid-America sports news from The Associated Press

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed with defensive tackle Chris Jones on a four-year, $85 million contract extension that includes $60 million in guarantees, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press on Tuesday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team had not announced the signing. The Chiefs and representatives for Jones have been working on a contract extension ever since last year, when they remained far apart on terms and the Pro Bowl selection skipped the entirety of the offseason program. Jones was back in time for training camp and helped the Chiefs win their first Super Bowl in 50 years in February.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Left-hander Danny Duffy will start for the Kansas City Royals when they open the season against the Indians in Cleveland next week. The 31-year-old Duffy will make his third start on opening day, although this one is far different than the others. The game July 24 will begin a season shortened to 60 games because of the coronavirus pandemic that will last through August and September. Duffy went 7-6 with a 4.34 ERA in 23 starts last season.

UNDATED (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals have enjoyed a relatively quiet ramp-up to next week’s opener of their abbreviated season. Their core players have continued to test negative for COVID-19 during their workouts at Busch Stadium ahead of next week’s opener to their abbreviated season. They haven’t had any injuries pop up that could dramatically alter their plans for the starting rotation or lineup. And the few questions they did have during the spring, such as how they would cast their deep platoon of outfielders and how they would stack their bullpen, have been largely answered.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals hope their youth gives them a unique ability to adapt to the rapidly changing environment in which they hope to not just complete a 60-game abbreviate season but actually contend into the final weeks of September. Already, that flexibility has been put to the test with four positive COVID-19 tests, including both of the catchers on their 40-man roster. All were asymptomatic and they hope all of them are back for the start of the season next week in Cleveland.

CHICAGO (AP) — Jake Burger is going to play in a local league this summer in his hometown of St. Louis after the Chicago White Sox approved the plan for their first-round pick in the 2017 amateur draft. It’s a chance for the third baseman to get back on the field after he tore his left Achilles tendon twice, sidelining him for each of the previous two seasons. The cancellation of this year’s minor league season left prospects like Burger without anywhere to go for game action that could help continue their development. It remains to be seen how many teams permit their prospects to play in organized leagues this summer.

Here is the latest Iowa news from The Associated Press at 3:40 a.m. CDT

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A federal appeals court has temporarily halted a judge’s order that the Dakota Access Pipeline be shut down in three weeks. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on Tuesday issued an “administrative stay” of the judge’s order. But The Bismarck Tribune reports that the appeals court said its order “should not be construed in any way as a ruling on the merits” of the case. The stay will remain in place until the appeals court rules on whether developer Energy Transfer can keep oil flowing while the court decides its appeal of the shutdown order.

UNDATED (AP) — Two Latino advocacy groups sued the state of Iowa Tuesday over a law that prohibits county election officials from using information readily available in the voter registration database to fill in any information missing from a voter’s absentee ballot request. The law approved by Republican lawmakers in the final hours of the legislative session last month requires county election officials to contact the voter directly by phone, email or mail to confirm any missing information. Supporters say it’s a voter fraud protection measure. The League of United Latin American Citizens and Majority Forward say in their lawsuit that it’s unconstitutional.

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — Investigators have identified a jailed sex offender as a “person of interest” in the disappearance of a 10-year-old Davenport girl who vanished last week. Henry Dinkins has not been charged in the disappearance of 10-year-old Breasia Terrell but Davenport Police Chief Paul Sikorski says he may have information about her whereabouts and merits further investigation. Dinkins is being jailed on a charge of violating sex offender registration requirements. Sikorski said that anyone who has information regarding Dinkins’ whereabouts between July 9 at 10 p.m. to noon on July 10 should contact police immediately.

CHICAGO (AP) — People traveling from Iowa and Oklahoma to Chicago will have to quarantine for two weeks upon arrival or face possible fines starting Friday. Chicago first issued a quarantine order early this month for 15 other states based on increasing numbers of confirmed cases of the coronavirus. The city updated the order Tuesday, bringing the total number of affected states to 17. States are included based on the rate of new confirmed cases per 100,000 residents. Illinois health officials announced 707 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease and 25 deaths.

Sports

The CAM Cougars advanced the the Class 1A District 13 Final with an 11-4 win over the Nodaway Valley Wolverines on Tuesday night in Anita. CAM book-ended the ballgame with stellar offensive innnings. The Cougars scored 5 runs in the 1st and the 6th to secure the win.

Kolby Nelson got the offense cooking with a double and Lane Spieker drove him in with a double of his own to get the Cougars on the board. 3 of the next four batters would drive in runs as well, with Ben Tibken reaching on a walk in between. Cade Ticknor brought in 2 on a sac fly that brought in the 4th and 5th runs. After the game Tibken said it was good to jump on the Wolverines early.

The game was quiet in the middle with only one hit from the 2nd-4th. Nodaway Valley then got on the board with 3 runs in the 5th. Evan Forcht brought in two with a single before getting picked off trying for second base to end the inning. CAM answered with one run in the 5th before piling up 5 on 4 hits in the 6th. After an easy win in the first round CAM Head Coach Dan Daugherty said it wasn’t difficult to get his team focused because they knew they would get a test from the Wolverines.

Lane Spieker got the win on the mound going 5 innings, giving up three runs on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts. Cade Ticknor finished the game and had 2 strikeouts of his own. CAM improves to 14-2 on the season and move on to the District Final on Saturday. Coach Daugherty said they have talked about defending home field.

CAM will face Bedford on Saturday in Anita for the District title and we’ll have that game on KJAN with pregame at 6:45 p.m. and first-pitch at 7:00 p.m. Tibken is part of a Senior class that has won over 20 games the past four seasons and a state tournament appearance. He said they just need to keep it up to advance on.

Nodaway Valley played a fairly solid game outside of those two big innings for the Cougars but their season ends with an 8-9 record.

The Iowa Department of Corrections (DOC) said Tuesday, that a Correctional Captain was assaulted by an inmate at the Anamosa State Penitentiary. The incident happened just before 9-a.m. Tuesday. The captain that was assaulted was taken to the local hospital to be seen for his injuries, and has since been released to return to duty. The counselor was also taken to the hospital to be seen for her injury. The inmate was reviewed by facility medical staff and found to have not suffered any major injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.

The two officers tried to enter the home through the front door but were turned back by the heat and flames. They then went to the back of the home and saw an 80-year-old woman lying on the floor. The release said they then broke open the back door, pulled the woman to safety.
