2 on a motorcycle killed in a crash near Knoxville, Saturday; 2 other motorcycle injury accidents occurred

News

June 13th, 2021 by Ric Hanson

Two people who were riding a motorcycle died Saturday, when the 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle they were on struck a car. The accident happened at around 1:30-p.m. on Highway 14, north of G-44, in Marion County. The State Patrol say a 2015 Chevrolet driven by 40-year-old Jonathan Slover, of Burlington, and a 2008 Chevy driven by 27-year-old Alli Souhrada, of Allison, were both northbound on the highway.

When Slover stopped and waited to turn west into a driveway, Souhrada failed to see he had slowed down, and struck Slover’s car in the rear. The motorcycle, occupied by 74-year-old Lloyd Hedrick and 60-year-old Lisa L. Wilmes, both of Indianola, was traveling southbound on the highway. Hedrick rapidly slowed down, but was unable to avoid hitting the car driven by Souhrada. They died from their injuries at the Knoxville Hospital.

A passenger in one of the vehicles, 37-year-old Aaron Ferch, of Kirkwood, IL., was injured, and transported by ambulance to the Pella Regional Hospital. The crash remains under investigation.

In a separate incident, Police in Des Moines are investigating a crash that left one person seriously injured. KCCI reports the crash happened at about 10 p.m. Saturday near Hubbell and Ankeny avenues. Authorities say a vehicle collided with the motorcycle. The individual operating the motorcycle is in serious condition while the passenger is in good condition. The circumstances of the crash are under investigation.

And, a collision in Clinton,  Saturday afternoon, resulted in injured to three people. The Iowa State Patrol reports a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle  operated by 53-year-old Timothy Arlo Daniels, of Clinton, was westbound on 25th Avenue at around 2:35-p.m., when he failed to yield the right-of-way to a 2008 Jeep Liberty, driven by 37-year-old Racheal Michell Bergeron, of Clinton, who was traveling south on N. 2nd Street.

The SUV hit the motorcycle before continuing southbound and striking an unoccupied 1999 Dodge Durango. 52-year-old Joseph Wayne Kilburg, of Clinton, was working underneath the Durango when the accident occurred. All three individuals were transported the hospital, with Daniels and Kilburg flown to the University of Iowa Hospital by MedForce Air. Clinton Fire transported Bergeron to MercyOne, in Clinton. The crash remains under investigation.
