FLOOD WARNING for eastern Page County until 2:30-p.m.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN OMAHA HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WARNING FOR EASTERN PAGE COUNTY IN SOUTHWESTERN IOWA UNTIL 230 PM CDT

* AT 831 AM CDT…REPORTING GAUGES INDICATE THAT THE EAST NODAWAY RIVER IS LIKELY FLOODING. PERSONS ALONG THE RIVER SHOULD EXERCISE CAUTION.

* SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE…
CLARINDA…SHAMBAUGH…BRADDYVILLE AND HEPBURN.

THIS INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING STREAMS AND DRAINAGES…BUCHANAN CREEK…EAST MILL CREEK…EAST NODAWAY RIVER.

Curtains of rain fell on S.W. IA overnight

Storms that pounded southwestern Iowa overnight into early this (Thursday) morning caused flash flooding in Clarinda and Shenandoah. The National Weather Service reports Clarinda had 5.27-inches of rain, with as much as two-inches of water covering the roads at times. Some locations near Clarinda reported 5.5-inches of rain.

Shenandoah also reported flash flooding on Highway 48 and other roads at around 5:15-a.m., after 4.64-inches of rain fell on the community. Bedford reported 4.22-inches, Villisca reported 3.50-inches. Three-miles west of Pacific Junction, a spotter reported 3.2-inches of rain. Three-miles northeast of Essex, 3-inches was reported. Emerson had 2.85-inches. In the Taylor County community of Blockton, 2.48-inches of rain had fallen as last report.

Treynor had 1.8-inches, Red Oak, 1.5-inches, and Massena recorded 1.69-inches of rain, while here in Atlantic at KJAN, we picked up 1.6-inches of rain. 1.25-inches of rain was reported, in Audubon.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN OMAHA HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR PAGE COUNTY IN SOUTHWESTERN IOWA UNTIL 1030 AM CDT

* AT 623 AM CDT…HEAVY RAIN HAD ENDED…BUT FLOODING WAS LIKELY
CONTINUING IN RURAL AREAS. FLOODING HAD BEEN REPORTED AROUND
SHENANDOAH AND AROUND CLARINDA EARLIER. RADAR ESTIMATES SHOWED THAT FOUR TO EIGHT INCHES MAY HAVE OCCURRED ACROSS CENTRAL PAGE COUNTY SINCE LAST EVENING. THIS IS AN EXTENSION OF THE EARLIER WARNING.

* SOME LOCATIONS THAT COULD EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE…
CLARINDA…SHENANDOAH…ESSEX…COIN…COLLEGE SPRINGS…

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10-A.M. FOR THE FOLLOWING AREA COUNTIES: MILLS-MONTGOMERY-FREMONT-PAGE-MADISON-ADAMS-UNION-TAYLOR-RINGGOLD.

SUCCESSIVE ROUNDS OF THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUE TO IMPACT SOUTHERN IOWA THIS MORNING. A WIDESPREAD ONE TO TWO INCHES OF RAIN FELL OVERNIGHT WITH LOCALIZED POCKETS EXCEEDING 4 INCHES. AN ADDITIONAL ONE TO TWO INCHES OF RAIN IS POSSIBLE BEFORE THE
STORMS COME TO AN END LATER THIS MORNING.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DES MOINES HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR TAYLOR COUNTY IN SOUTHWESTERN IOWA, UNTIL 1145 AM CDT THURSDAY.

* AT 541 AM CDT…DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A THUNDERSTORM PRODUCING HEAVY RAIN ACROSS THE WARNED AREA. RAINFALL IN EXCESS OF FOUR INCHES HAVE ALREADY FALLEN. FLASH FLOODING IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN SHORTLY ALONG SMALL STREAM BASINS. IN ADDITION…EXPECT RAPID RISES ALONG BOTH THE EAST AND WEST FORKS OF THE 102 RIVER BASIN.
* SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE…

Rainfall report for Atlantic

As of 5:25-a.m. today (7/16), Atlantic had received 1.6-inches of rain (at the KJAN studios). A little more than 3/4 of an inch fell thru 6-p.m. Wednesday, with an additional .82″ having fallen overnight into early this morning. We’ll update this total at 7-a.m. (the 24-hour reporting cycle for the National Weather Service).

Early This Morning: Thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms may produce heavy rainfall. South wind 5 to 15 mph with gusts to around 25 mph. Chance of thunderstorms 90 percent.
Today: Mostly cloudy until late afternoon then becoming mostly sunny. Widespread thunderstorms in the morning…then scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. High in the mid 80s. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of thunderstorms 80 percent.
Tonight: Partly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of thunderstorms in the evening. Low in the lower 70s. Southwest wind near 10 mph.

Friday: Sunny. Hot and humid. High in the lower 90s. South wind near 10 mph. Highest heat index readings 100 to 105 in the afternoon.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy through midnight…then mostly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms after midnight. Low in the mid 70s. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Highest heat index readings 100 to 103 through midnight.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 415 AM CDT FOR SOUTHERN MONTGOMERY…PAGE AND EASTERN FREMONT COUNTIES…

AT 344 AM CDT…SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WERE LOCATED ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM NEAR STANTON TO 6 MILES SOUTH OF SHENANDOAH…MOVING EAST AT 40 MPH. MORE STORMS WERE DEVELOPING FARTHER TO THE WEST NEAR RIVERTON AND HAMBURG…WHICH WILL ALSO MOVE EAST INTO THE WARNED AREA.

HAZARD…60 MPH WIND GUSTS AND PENNY SIZE HAIL.

SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE… CLARINDA…SHENANDOAH…ESSEX…COIN…COLLEGE SPRINGS…SHAMBAUGH… YORKTOWN…NORTHBORO…HEPBURN AND PIERCE RECREATION AREA.
