The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Dense Fog Advisory, which is in effect until 4 AM CST Monday.
* VISIBILITY…Below a quarter mile in the advisory area with near zero visibility at times.
* IMPACTS…Travel may be difficult at times due to the reduced visibilities. Drive slowly and allow extra space between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
A Dense Fog Advisory means visibilities will frequently be reduced to less than one quarter mile. If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you.

A strong storm system will move from the central plains tonight and into the mid Mississippi Valley by Monday evening. Snow is expected to begin later this evening in northeast Nebraska, and spread southeast tonight through Monday. Snow will become heavy late tonight into Monday morning across parts of eastern Nebraska north of I-80 and extend into parts of west central and northwest Iowa. Strong north winds of 25 to 45 mph will develop overnight and continue into Monday across the area. The strong winds will result in blizzard conditions and nearly impossible travel in much of northeast Nebraska and northwest Iowa. Farther to the southeast, a wintry mix of precipitation including sleet and freezing rain will turn to snow by Monday morning.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 6 PM CST MONDAY, and from 3-a.m. MONDAY until midnight, for Carroll-Greene and Audubon Counties.
* WHAT…Mixed precipitation expected. Plan on slippery road conditions, including during the evening commute on Monday. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, with localized amounts up to 5 inches, and ice accumulations of a light glaze
are expected.

* WHAT…Blizzard conditions expected. Travel will be very dangerous to impossible, including during both the morning and evening commutes on Monday. Tree branches could fall as well and potentially affecting powerlines. Total snow accumulations
of 3 to 5 inches, with localized amounts up to 8 inches, are expected.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Winds gusting as high as 40 mph will cause whiteout conditions in blowing snow. Significant drifting of the snow is likely.

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. An area of drizzle and fog will continue to reduce visibilities to below one mile across portions of central Iowa late this afternoon. Some spots may see visibilities as low as one quarter mile at times.
Today: Drizzle likely, mainly between 1pm and 3pm. Patchy fog. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 40. Northeast wind 7 to 11 mph.
Tonight: Rain, mainly before 3am. Patchy fog. Low around 35. Northeast wind 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Monday: Snow likely, possibly mixed with rain, becoming all snow after 5pm. Patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a temperature rising to near 37 by noon, then falling to around 33 during the remainder of the day. Windy, with a northeast wind 10 to 15 mph becoming north northwest 16 to 21 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Monday Night: A 50 percent chance of snow before midnight. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 22. Windy, with a north northwest wind 16 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 33. West northwest wind 9 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.
Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 21.
Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 37.

Visibility expected to drop to the 1 to 3 mile range through this morning, with some locations experiencing periods of dense fog of 1/2 a mile visibility or less.
Additionally, in locations with temperatures below freezing, primarily along and north of highway 20, freezing fog is possible.
Please travel with extra caution. Be alert for changing and reduced visibility due to fog. Untreated roads may become slippery in some locations where dense fog is present.
