IndyCar race won’t be back in Iowa next year

Sports

September 17th, 2025 by Ric Hanson

NEWTON, Iowa – After nearly two decades, officials with IndyCar have announced that the series will not be returning to the Iowa Speedway during the 2026 race schedule.

The Iowa Speedway first hosted an INDYCAR race in 2007 with the Iowa Corn Indy 250. INDYCAR has held races at the Newton track every year since 2007, except in 2021, when financial issues at the speedway caused INDYCAR to drop the Iowa Speedway from the schedule.

This year’s July race brought new challenges. Hy-Vee pulled out as the title sponsor in February, and Sukup Manufacturing took over as title sponsor in April, just three months before the race. Leaders at the Iowa Speedway say those changes had a major impact on race weekend.

Eric Peterson, President of the Iowa Speedway said while IndyCar won’t be returning in 2026, the Speedway is hopeful to see IndyCar return in the future. Peterson also said that with the opening in the schedule, other types of racing could be coming to the Iowa Speedway, although he did not elaborate on what kind. Additionally, with NASCAR set to host its third Cup race at the track, fans can expect facility upgrades in the future.
