Greene County Football Looking to Stay in the Hunt Against Atlantic

Sports

October 9th, 2025 by Christian Adams

The Greene County Rams will be in need of a win Friday night against the Atlantic Trojans. After falling to Carroll 35-0 last week, the Rams sit 1-1 in the district. Although a loss would not eliminate them from playoff contention, it would likely force them to rely on the RPI system. Rams head coach Caden Duncan knows how important these last three games are and the implications they have.

Last week the Rams struggled on offense. They only managed 87 yards through the air and were held to negative rushing yards. Despite the tough result, when facing a tough opponent, there is always an opportunity to learn, and the Rams feel like the learned a lot from their loss to Carroll.

Leading the offense for the Rams will be junior quarterback Zack Stadler. Completing over 57 percent of his passes, he’s thrown for 958 yards and 12 touchdowns. He is also a threat on the ground with five scores and 281 yards on the ground which is second on the team. Duncan praises his IQ and ability to make reads and that, combined with his physically abilities make him a threat.

The Rams are more than aware of Atlantic’s ability to run the football and the talent they have. Duncan says that containing that part of the Trojans’ game will be paramount.

There is a lot on the line in this game for both teams. While Atlantic is trying to ensure that they are a postseason shoe in, the Rams need this win to avoid being on the outside looking. There is little doubt that Greene County will play like a desperate team because they understand what is at stake.

You can catch all the action on KJAN with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30 pm on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm.

Atlantic Cross Country Set to Host Annual Meet

Sports

October 9th, 2025 by Jack McGonigal

The Atlantic Cross Country teams are gearing up to host their annual meet at Nishna Hills Thursday. The coaching staff has been preparing all week for the 23 team meet and still have much to do on race day.

The 18-hole golf course gets transformed into a 5,000-kilometer cross country course requiring an all-day group effort.

Most golf course tracks can be flat without much of an incline but at Nishna Hills it’s an up and down terrain.

Head Coach Dan Vargason believes the course is terrific from a fan’s viewing standpoint.

The list of teams ranges from four different classes and even a Nebraska school comes over as well. This allows the Trojans to compete against several schools they haven’t raced against.

Middle school boys begin at 4:00 followed by the middle school girls at 4:15. JV Boys will be at 4:40, Varsity Boys at 5:05, Girls Varsity at 5:30 and Girls JV at 5:55.

Iowa State men’s basketball Media Day

Sports

October 8th, 2025 by Ric Hanson

Iowa State basketball coach T.J. Otzelberger says senior point guard Tamin Lipsey is on schedule for a November return. Lipsey suffered a sprained knee on September 23rd and Otzelberger says the four year starter is working on become more of a vocal leader.

Otzelberger says it is difficult to believe this will be Lipsey’s final season.

The Cyclones return three of their top five scorers from a team that finished 25-10 and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Otzelberger says how much depth this team has will depend upon the new players.

Otzelberger says a key to this season will be team chemistry and that process began during summer workouts.

Otzelberger says six-11 freshman Dominykas Pleta is in contention to be the starter in the post. Otzelberger says the native of Germany is the most improved player since the start of summer workouts.

The Cyclones visit Creighton for an exhibition game on October 17th.
