ACGC Football Looks for Undefeated Regular Season

Sports

October 17th, 2025 by Jack McGonigal

The ACGC Football team is seeking to cap off their third consecutive perfect regular season when they go head-to-head with the Riverside Bulldogs Friday night in Guthrie Center. ACGC comes off a 42-14 road victory at AHSTW and Head Coach Cody Matthewson was extremely pleased with the effort last week.

ACGC has been a run-heavy team with over 2,200 yards on the ground this season including seven different players with at least 100 yards in 2025. This allows the Chargers to create a balanced rushing attack within the offense.

The Chargers are a dominantly senior-led team and that’s created a strong chemistry across all position groups.

On the defensive side of the ball, ACGC is led by Senior Xander Harwood with 37 tackles and 23 of them being solo ones. The defense has only allowed an astonishing 6.7 points per game.

Stopping the run will be critical for the Chargers to have success against Riverside.

ACGC and Riverside square off Friday with the winner being named district champion. You can catch all the action on KJAN with pregame coverage starting at 6:30 with Kickoff scheduled for 7 pm.

No. 8 Riverside visits No. 4 AC/GC in class A Friday night

October 17th, 2025 by Ric Hanson

Two teams headed to the playoffs collide for the district seven title in class A tonight (Friday night), when eighth ranked Oakland Riverside visits number four AC/GC. Riverside coach Darrell Frain.

It matches two outstanding ground attacks, Riverside has rushed for more than 25 hundred yards this season while AC/GC is averaging eight yards per carry.

Frain says winning on first down will be a key to the outcome.

Atlantic Football Ready and Focused for Biggest Game of the Year

Sports

October 16th, 2025 by Christian Adams

Friday night will be the most important night in the Trojans’ season to date as they prepare to host the Haran Cyclones. A win secures a berth in the postseason and keeps your rival on the outside looking in. A loss forces a must-win next week and flips the script with just a game remaining. However, getting that win will require a feat that Atlantic has not accomplished in 23 years. Beating the Harlan Cyclones. Head coach Joe Brummer and the team are aware of what is at stake and want to take advantage of the opportunity in front of them.

Big games bring lots of excitement, which can be beneficial. However, it can also be detrimental. Too much hype can lead to overconfidence, misreads, penalties, and a host of other issues. Although a healthy amount of excitement is always good, Brummer knows that his team will have to stay in the moment.

The Trojans will be facing one of the best players that they have seen to date in quarterback Gabe Arkfeld. Throwing for 11 scores and over 1,110 yards, he is accurate, experienced, and tenacious.

Atlantic’s defense has arguably been the strongest part of the team. The pass rush has been especially effective this year against mobile quarterbacks. The Trojan defense has recorded multiple sacks in three of its last four games, including four last week against Greene County. Brummer says that pressuring Arkfeld will ned to be an important factor.

Offensively, the run game will have to be at its best. Ethan McNeal leads 3A in rushing and all-purpose yards, and the Trojans will need him to continue his A-level production. However, besides leaning on the run game, the turnover margin and smart football will be key for the Trojans to pull off something they have not done in a long time.

You can catch all the action on KJANTV with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30 pm. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm.
