Washington prepares to visit Iowa

Sports

October 8th, 2024 by Ric Hanson

Washington coach Jedd Fisch (fish) believes his team is adjusting to the physical style of the Big Ten. The Huskies are 2-1 in the league race after a 27-17 win over Michigan heading into Saturday’s game at Iowa.

Teams traveling multiple time zones have struggled early in the season but Fisch says they can’t be overly concerned about that.

Fisch says the Huskies will leave a day early to prepare for the 9-a.m. (Seattle time) kick off (11-a.m. Central Time).

West Virginia’s Neal Brown previews No. 11 Iowa State

Sports

October 8th, 2024 by Ric Hanson

West Virginia coach Neal Brown says Iowa State’s balanced offense is a concern. Sophomore quarterback Rocco Becht leads an ISU offense that is averaging 244 yards of passing and 183 on the ground.

Brown says under coordinator Jon Heacock (hay-cock) the Cyclones have one of the nation’s top defenses.

The Mountaineers are coming off an impressive win at Oklahoma State and this will match up two of the early unbeaten’s in Big 12 play.

West Virginia is 3-2 overall with losses to Penn State and Pitt. Brown says a tough schedule has them prepared.

Becht has thrown 32 touchdown passes in his career and recently became the 10th player in school history to eclipse 4,000 passing yards. He has 4,358 passing yards in his career, ranking eighth all-time at ISU.

Becht and the Cyclones are back in action Saturday at West Virginia at 7 p.m. (CT) on FOX.

The return of Payton Sandfort is a key as the Iowa Hawkeye men look to make a retun to the NCAA Tournament. Sandfort returns for his senior season after testing the NBA Draft. Sandfort averaged nearly 16 and a half points and more than six and a half rebounds as a junior.

That’s Iowa coach Fran McCaffery who says Sandfort is developing a complete game.

The Hawkeyes were 19-15 last season and played in the N-I-T. They were picked to finish 11th in the expanded Big Ten Conference.

The Hawkeyes open at home on Monday, November fourth against Texas A@M Commerce.

Northern Iowa’s Mark Farley on bouncing back from a loss to South Dakota State.

Sports

Northern Iowa coach Mark Farley may make a change at quarterback before Saturday’s game at fourth ranked South Dakota. Starter Aidan Dunne threw two interceptions in a 41-3 loss to top ranked South Dakota State. Matthew Schecklman was nine of 16 for 67 yards.

The Panthers had four turnovers and had a punt blocked against South Dakota State.

Farley says before moving on from a loss like that you have to grasp what went wrong.

Farley says you don’t just forget about a loss like that.

The Panthers are 2-3 overall.
