CAM Boys Looking to Continue Winning Ways

Sports

January 9th, 2025 by Christian Adams

The CAM cougars boys basketball team is looking to continue their winning ways as the season moves toward the halfway point. The Cougars had a rough start to their schedule losing their first three games. Despite tough losses against tough teams, CAM seems to be hitting their stride. The Cougars have won four of their last five and back-to-back games since the start of 2025. Head coach Ian Hunt says his team’s resiliency has been one their biggest strengths to start the season.

Leading the charge for this CAM team are a pair of dynamic players. Senior Chase Jahde currently leads the team in scoring averaging 18.9 points per game. Not far behind is junior Colin Bower who averages 15.1 points per game. In addition to scoring, Bower has also been a force on the glass picking up 12.2 rebounds per game to average a double-double. Hunt has been impressed with their play and also noted that their abilities have opened up opportunities for other teammates as well as themselves.

Although Hunt is pleased with the way his team has been playing, he knows there are always ways to improve.

CAM will look for their third win in a row on the road in Southwest Valley on Friday. Hunt expects a tough game and says controlling the glass and the basketball will be big keys to the game.

The Cougars contest against the Timberwolves is scheduled for 7:15 pm.

Atlantic Girls Pull Out Scrappy Victory at Glenwood

Sports

January 8th, 2025 by Christian Adams

The Atlantic Trojans girls basketball team found a way to win a scrappy road game on Tuesday Night. The last time the Trojans faced off against the Glenwood Rams, Atlantic pitched a first half shutout. However, this game would be very different. Both defenses were stingy and although Atlantic struggled at times, they pulled a 43-38 conference win.

It was clear from the start that this game would differ from the team’s previous meeting. Glenwood came out to prove that they would not be pushed around. Although the offenses were slow to start, the defenses were not. The Trojans allowed just five points in the opening quarter. Despite the offense not being at its best Paytn Hartr and Katrina Williams led the way to help Atlantic hold a one point lead at the half.

By no means was Tuesday the cleanest game for the Trojans. A few uncharacteristic mistakes, some shots not falling, and a stingy Glenwood defense made things difficult. However, Atlantic found a way. Hartr was key on offense leading the game with 17 points while Williams wasn’t far behind finishing with 15.  Despite not being the Trojans’ best effort head coach Dan Vargason was proud that his team powered through.

Vargason was also pleased with the effort of Williams and Hartr and knew they gave them and edge in the paint.

Atlantic will be back on the road against Kuemper Catholic on Friday and Vargason says that ball protection and scoring depth will be key.

Tipoff in Carroll is scheduled for 6 pm.
