Iowa coach Jan Jansen updates the status of junior forward Hannah Stuelke

Sports

January 20th, 2025 by Ric Hanson

Iowa women’s basketball coach Jan Jensen says junior forward Hannah Stuelke is doubtful for Wednesday night’s game at Washington. Stuelke is averaging nearly 13 points and more than eight rebounds per game and missed Sunday’s loss at Oregon with a concussion she suffered in last week’s overtime loss to Nebraska.

Stuelke’s abcense is crucial for a Hawkeye team that has lost five straight games.

For the first time in Big 12 play the third ranked Iowa State men are trying to bounce back from a loss. The Cyclones are 5-1 in the league race after a 64-57 loss at West Virginia and will return to action Tuesday night at home against Central Florida. Senior guard Keshon Gilbert.

Gilbert says the Cyclones know they have a target on their back.

The Cyclones were one-of-17 from three point range in the loss at West Virginia. ISU coach T.J. Otzelberger.

Otzelberger says better ball movement will lead to better three point shooting.

UCF is 3-3 in the Big 12 and coming off a 69-68 loss to conference leader Houston.

Shorthanded Iowa State women fall at #20 West Virginia

Sports

January 19th, 2025 by Ric Hanson

With star point guard Emily Ryan sidelined by illness the Iowa State women struggled against 20th ranked West Virginia’s pressure defense. The Cyclones committed 25 turnovers in an 82-68 loss on the road. West Virginia also had 15 offensive rebounds and led by as many as 26 points in the second half.

That’s ISU coach Bill Fennelly. West Virginia took command by outscoring the Cyclones 20-3 to close the opening quarter.

Addy Brown led ISU with 19 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. The Cyclones are 4-3 in the Big 12 and will have home games this week against BYU and Central Florida.
