Iowa women hold of Minnesota 68-60

Sports

February 7th, 2025 by Ric Hanson

A quick start helped the Iowa Hawkeye women steal a road win at Minnesota, Thursday. The Hawkeyes outscored the Gophers 18-7 in the opening quarter and they held on for a 68-60 victory. It capped a weather plagued trip that did not see the Hawkeyes land in the Twin Cities until Thursday afternoon.

That’s Iowa coach Jan Jensen who lauded the play of her veterans for making plays down the stretch. Junior forward Hannah Stuelke led the way with 17 points and senior guard Sydney Affolter had 13 points and added 14 rebounds as the Hawkeyes evened their Big Ten record at 6-6.

Former Iowa All-American Cooper DeJean will play in the game he grew up watching on Sunday when his Philadelphia Eagles play the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.

The chore for the Eagle defense will be to slow down a Kansas City offense led by three-time Super Bowl champ Patrick Mahomes.DeJean says Mahomes’ biggest strength my be his leadership.
