February 12th, 2025 by Ric Hanson

The 10th ranked Iowa State Cyclones used an 8-0 run to start the second half and went on to a 77-65 win at Central Florida, Tuesday night, as the Cyclones moved to 9-4 in the Big 12.

That’s ISU coach T.J. Otzelberger. Keshon Gilbert led a balanced attack with 15 points and also added seven rebounds as the Cyclones led by as many as 15 points in the second half.

Otzelberger felt it was a solid all round performance by his team.

Tytan Anderson scored 22 points and UNI used a fast start to beat Indiana State 88-73, Tuesday night, in the McLeod Center. It was the Panther’s fourth straight win.

UNI led 50-38 at halftime and held off the Sycamores who crawled to within five in the second half.

The Panthers made seven of their first eight three pointers and finished the game 13-of-21 from behind the arc. UNI coach Ben Jacobson.

Iowa men visit Rutgers Wednesday night

Sports

February 11th, 2025 by Ric Hanson

Iowa coach Fran McCaffery is staying positive with his team as the season appears to be unraveling. The Hawkeyes have lost six of their last seven games and with leading scorer and rebounder Owen Freeman done for the season they have a lot to replace as they get set to visit Rutgers Wednesday night.

The Hawkeyes are 4-8 in the Big Ten and it is a different team that prepares for the stretch run.

Freeman’s absence means The Hawkeyes need to be more efficient on offense.

Rutgers is 5-8 in the Big Ten and led by star freshmen Ace Baily and Dylan Harper. That duo is averaging better than 38 points per game.

February 11th, 2025 by Ric Hanson

Lucy Olsen poured in 32 points as the Iowa Hawkeye women rolled to an 81-66 win at Nebraska. It was their fifth straight win as they move to 7-6 in the Big Ten.

The Hawkeyes were 12-of-24 from three point range but Olsen says it is defense that has helped them turn things around.

The Hawkeyes avenged a loss to the Huskers, who won the first meeting in overtime in Iowa City.

Taylor McCabe added 17 points as Iowa improves to 17-7 overall.

NASCAR Cup Series return to the Iowa Speedway nears sellout

Sports

February 10th, 2025 by Ric Hanson

The return of the NASCAR Cup Series to the Iowa Speedway is nearing a sellout. The Iowa Corn 350 is Sunday, August third, and the Xfinity race is on August second. Both races were sold out last June.

That’s Iowa Speedway president Eric Peterson who says the renewal rate from last year’s event was extremely high.

There was a partial repave of the racing surface last year and Peterson says they have decided against a further repave.

UNI men host Indiana State Tuesday night

Sports

February 10th, 2025 by Ric Hanson

UNI men’s basketball coach Ben Jacobson feels added toughness has his team in the thick of the Missouri Valley Conference race. After rallying for a win over Illinois State the Panthers are 10-4 in the league race and trail Valley leader Drake by two games. They take a three game winning streak into Tuesday night’s game at home against Indiana State.

Indiana State is coming off an overtime loss at Drake.

Jacobson says the Panthers are not focused on the standings right now.

The Sycamores enter Tuesday night’s game with a Valley record of 6-8.

It was his first interception in the N-F-L — and it happened on his birthday. DeJean turned 22 on Sunday.
