The fourth ranked UNI wrestling team posted its first victory over Iowa State since 2019. The Panthers won seven of ten matches to beat the 14th ranked Cyclones 26-10 in front of a record crowd in the McLeod Center.
That’s UNI coach Doug Schwab, who says it was the perfect way to celebrate Senior Day.
The Panthers improve to 13-1 in duals.
The Cyclones see their dual record fall to 11-5.
That’s ISU coach Kevin Dresser who says the Cyclones did not have the horses to compete against the Panthers.
Drake missed a chance to take command of the Missouri Valley Conference title chase. A Darius Hannah dunk with 10 seconds remaining was the game winner as Bradley edged the Bulldogs 61-59 in the Knapp Center. The Bulldogs were held without a field goal the final three and a half minutes.
The Bulldogs were only 14 of 22 from the foul line as their lead in the Missouri Valley race over the Braves dwindles to a game with four to play.
Drake leading scorer Bennett Stirtz was held to eight points and Bradley prevented him from taking over at crunch time.
Drake falls to 13-3 in the Valley and 23-3 overall
Riding a six game winning streak the Iowa Hawkeye women visit ninth ranked Ohio State for a day game on Monday. At 8-6 in the Big Ten and 18-7 over all, the Hawkeyes NCAA hopes are much brighter than a few weeks ago.
That’s Iowa coach Jan Jensen. Ohio State is third in the Big Ten at 10-3 and the Buckeyes are 21-3 overall.
LAWRENCE, Kan. (Cyclones.com) – Iowa State (18-9, 9-5 Big 12) picked up the 93-80 road win at Kansas (16-7, 7-5 Big 12) Saturday afternoon to secure the season sweep of the Jayhawks. Iowa State seemingly could not miss from beyond the 3-point line, while Addy Brown nearly hit a triple-double. Iowa State sent in 18 3-pointers, making 10-plus for the third-straight game and 11th of the season. Seven of those performances have come in conference play. The total ties the fourth most in program history and fifth most in Big 12 history.
Addy Brown was a star coming just one rebound shy of a triple-double. Her stat line included 17 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds. The sophomore secured her seventh double-double of the season and 17th of her career.
Emily Ryan had a hot start with four 3-pointers in the first quarter, going on to match her career high of six. Ryan ended with a season-high 20 points, six assists, two rebounds and two steals.
Audi Crooks had her 59th-straight game scoring in double figures with a game-leading 25, while adding nine rebounds. Sydney Harris made five 3-pointers and totaled 17 points, while Kelsey Joens tallied 11 points as five scored in double figures.

The Atlantic Trojans girls basketball team opened their postseason with a 51-35 Saturday night. After a close first quarter, the Trojans took control of the game, led by their defense. In the middle two frames, the offense continued to push as the Trojans controlled the second half on their way to a victory and a berth in the regional semi-final.
On paper, both teams matched up relatively evenly. Statistically, only a few categories heavily leaned one way or the other, and the first quarter bore this out. Both defenses limited opportunities. Atlantic played the perimeter very well (which they did all night), while Clarinda limited the Trojans’ access to the paint. Each team was able to hit a three-pointer, with Atlantic’s coming courtesy of Zoey Kirchhoff who led the Trojans in the first quarter with five points. When the opening quarter came to a close, Atlantic had a slim one-point lead. In the second quarter, both teams struggled with turnovers early. However, it was the Trojans who cleaned things up and started to take control of the game. The offense to find more success in the paint. Paytn Harter knocked down three field goals while Katrina Williams added a pair. Defensively, the Trojans played very well limiting Clarinda to just 7 points in the quarter. By the horn, Atlantic had built a 27-18 lead.
The Trojans fully took control in the third quarter. The defense forced the Cardinals to the inside and caused numerous turnovers by clogging the passing lanes. This fueled their transition game and limited Clarinda’s chances to come back. Offensively, Williams heated up with three field goals and a trio of free throws. As a part of Atlantic’s continued success down low, Harter also added a pair of field goals to lead the games with 17 points. As time ticked down, the Cardinals were unable to find an answer to Atlatnic’s defense. Maddie Cole led Clarinda with nine points as the Trojans held the Cardinals to less than 12 points in all four quarters. Williams and Kirchhoff also reached double digits for the Trojans as Atlantic won their sixth consecutive postseason opener. Head coach Dan Vargason was very happy with the way his defense executed their gameplay.
Although the offense was at its peak early on, Vargarson liked their ability to stick with it.
The win also marks Atlantic’s fifth consecutive win (their longest streak of the season) and although happy with the win, Varagson knows it is time to turn their attention towards the regional semi-final.
The Trojans will continue their postseason on Wednesday as they head to Harlan to take on the Cyclones. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 pm.

(Radio Iowa) – State regulators have issued a total of 80-thousand dollars’ worth of fines to three different companies that Iowans may use to place online bets on sports. Churchill Downs Technology, also known as Twin Spires, is paying the 20-thousand dollar fine for either contacting or setting up online wagering accounts for 17 people on the state’s so-called self-exclusion list. It means those people voluntarily asked to be prohibited from entering a casino or placing bets. Penn Sports Interactive — the sports betting operation associated with the Ameristar Casino in Council Bluffs — is paying a 20-thousand dollar for letting 51 people place proposition bets on men’s basketball games between N-C-A-A teams and teams in the N-A-I-A.
That type of betting market not allowed in Iowa. Penn Sports was fined another 20-thousand dollars for sending two marketing emails to someone who put themselves on the state’s self-exclusion list so they would not get those sorts of email. The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission also issued a 20-thousand dollar fine against Circa Sports, which offered certain types of wagers on an Iowa versus Michigan game that are not allowed under Iowa law.
