CAM and Riverside Meet Friday in Region Semifinal

Sports

February 20th, 2025 by Christian Adams

The CAM Cougars girls basketball team is set to square up against the Riverside Bulldogs Friday night in Oakland in the Class 1A-District 1 Semifinal. Earlier in the season, the Bulldogs went to CAM last month and won 56-48 behind nine Sophia Taylor points. That matchup was just the third meeting since 2020.

CAM went on the road and beat Woodbine 68-57 in the regional quarterfinal on Tuesday. The Cougars were led by Senior Maddie Richter, who put up an astonishing 37 points that included six three-pointers. Head Coach Joe Wollum was thrilled with the team’s performance earlier this week.

Senior Guard Maddie Richter is described as a team player and a very selfless person on and off the court by her team and Coach Wollum points that out.

The Cougars understand what has to improve to avenge the earlier loss to the 19-win Bulldogs and are looking for their third win of the postseason.

The Cougars and Bulldogs tip-off at 7 P.M. Friday at Riverside. KJAN will have coverage beginning at 7 pm.

Audubon Set for Clash with ACGC Thursday Night

Sports

February 20th, 2025 by Christian Adams

The Audubon Wheelers are set to take on the ACGC Chargers Thursday night in Guthrie Center in the Class 1A-District 8 quarterfinals. This will mark the first meeting between the two teams this season and just the third since 2011. The Wheelers are coming off of a 59-47 victory over Glidden-Ralston Monday, a night in which Oliver Deist and Brody Schultes both had 14 points in the win. Wheeler Head Coach Darren Miller was pleased with his team’s effort against the Wildcats earlier this week.

Audubon enters Thursday night’s matchup averaging nearly 56 points a game, while the Chargers average over 70. Miller says rebounding and defending will be critical to staying competitive in Guthrie Center.

Miller also emphasized how athletic of a group the Chargers are but knows his team is up for the challenge.

Audubon and ACGC tips off at 7 P.M. Thursday from Guthrie Center. KJAN will have coverage beginning at 7 P.M.
