The Atlantic boys golf team came in 2nd on Thursday at the Lewis Central Invite at Fox Run Golf Course in Council Bluffs. The Trojans carded a 316 total, ten shots back of the winner Glenwood. Ben Renaud had another strong round after winning the Mustang Invite on Tuesday. Renaud shot a 75 at Fox Run which was good enough to take Runner-Up Medalist honors.

Other scores for the Trojans included Matt Gearheart 76 (5th Place), Cyle Renaud 79 (7th Place), Mason Goergen 95, Austin Alexander 86, Tate DenBeste 112.

Molina initially appealed the suspension after it was announced Tuesday and played in a 5-3, 11-inning win.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kyle Seager hit a go-ahead homer with two outs in the eighth inning, and the Mariners held on to beat the Royals 4-2 on a warm, sun-splashed afternoon. James Paxton matched a career-best with 10 strikeouts over six sharp innings before turning it over to his bullpen. Nick Vincent earned the win for Seattle while Edwin Diaz handled the ninth for his fourth save.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska quarterbacks are excited about playing in Scott Frost’s spread-option offense. They are about to find out where they stack up as spring practice begins to wind down. Frost said he hopes no one decides to transfer but that opportunities are limited when it comes to playing time.

BELLEVUE, Neb. (AP) — The golf coach at Bellevue University in Nebraska recruited 61-year-old Don Byers to join the team after playing a round with him last summer. Byers is the oldest athlete in the NAIA since Alan Moore kicked an extra point for Faulkner University of Alabama in 2011, when he was 61. Byers’ first task was to lose 45 pounds so he could fit into his team-issued golf pants. His goal this spring is to make the starting lineup as one of Bellevue’s top five players.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Creighton’s Ronnie Harrell Jr. is leaving the Bluejays to play his final season at the University of Denver as a graduate transfer. Harrell announced his decision on Twitter. Harrell is from Denver, and the Pioneers’ head coach is his cousin Rodney Billups. Harrell started 14 of 30 games as a junior and averaged seven points and better than six rebounds per game.

St. Louis has lost three of four series this season. The Cardinals’ starting lineup was missing Fowler, Paul DeJong and Yadier Molina, who served a one-game suspension stemming from an altercation with Arizona manager last weekend.

Southwestern Community College in Creston has another basketball coach to search for this week. A day after Head Men’s Basketball Coach Todd Lorensen announced he is leaving to become the Head Coach at Buena Vista University, Women’s Head Basketball Head Coach Addae Houston has resigned. Houston is leaving to take the Head Assistant Coach position at Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, MO which is his alma mater.

Houston was Head Coach at Southwestern for 5 seasons beginning in March of 2013. His most successful season leading the team was in 2016-17 when the Spartans went 17-15. They had a record of 8-22 this past season.

Southwestern Dean of Students Beth Kulow said the college hopes to have a new Head Coach in place promptly. The Spartans will also be looking for a new Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach after Morgon Knorr left the position last week to pursue other interests.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The schedule for this weekend’s baseball series between Nebraska and Iowa has been changed due to the impending weather.  The two teams will play a Friday doubleheader beginning at 2:05 p.m. (CT).  The day and start time for game three will be determined based on the forecast.

Atlantic may have a new Activities Director lined up for the departing Matt Alexander after tonight’s Atlantic School Board meeting.

A report from Carroll Broadcasting has indicated that Fort Madison Activities Director Andrew Mitchell has removed himself from consideration for that position at Carroll Community School District because he has accepted an offer to become Assistant High School Principal and Activities Director in Atlantic.

Atlantic Community School District Superintendent Steve Barber did not confirm or deny Mitchell being the guy when contacted by KJAN. He said they are in the process of determining that position and it would be discussed at tonight’s school board meeting.

The Atlantic School Board is set to meet at 5:30pm at the Atlantic High School Media Room.

Atlantic has been looking to replace current Assistant High School Principal and Activities Director Matt Alexander, who is leaving this summer to become the Superintendent of the OA-BCIG School District.

The Fremont-Mills and Underwood Girls were team title winners at the Griswold Girls Tiger Relays on Tuesday night.
