Iowa Set to Host Drake for Midweek Matchup

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball team will host Drake, for a midweek matchup on Wednesday evening at Bob Pearl Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5pm CT.

The Hawkeyes enter the contest with a 28-16 record and the Bulldogs come into the contest with a 20-25 record. Drake is coming off a series win at UIC where they took two of three games against the Flames. Iowa swept its weekend series over Penn State, including a 10-2 run-rule (6 innings) in game two. Iowa leads the all-time series against the Bulldogs, 39-16, the most recent meeting between the teams was in April 2023 at Drake, with Iowa winning, 5-2.

As a team, Drake is hitting .260 and its pitching staff has a 3.84 ERA. They are led by Freshman Ava Curry who is hitting .388 with 47 hits and 14 RBIs. Junior Tatum Aragon leads the Bulldogs with 32 RBIs and 10 home runs. Redshirt-senior Molly Hoekstra has the most starts in the circle with 13, and holds a 4.33 ERA with a 4-8 record. Senior Paige Bedsworth has a team-leading 2.01 ERA in 66.1 innings pitched.

Overall, the Hawkeyes are hitting .278 as a team and the pitching staff has a 3.76 ERA. Sophomore Jena Young leads the team with a .368 batting average and 50 hits and 36 runs scored. Sophomore Soo-Jin Berry leads the team with 27 RBIs and nine home runs. Junior Jalen Adams has thrown 158.0 innings for the Hawkeyes and has a 2.08 ERA with 109 strikeouts. She picked up her 20th win of the season in game three against Penn State.

UNI’s Todd Stepsis recaps Saturday’s scrimmage

UNI football coach Todd Stepsis says he was happy with Saturday’s 60-play scrimmage. The Panthers are in the next to last week of spring drills.

Stepsis says the offensive line is starting to make progress.

Stepsis says a lack of depth on the defensive line was evident during the scrimmage.

Stepsis likes the attitude of the team.

UNI’s spring game is May third at Cedar Falls High School.
