IOWA CITY, Iowa – Tickets remain for the University of Iowa baseball team’s series against No. 10 Oregon State on May 9-11 in Des Moines, Iowa, presented by the Iowa Department of Health & Human Services.

Tickets are all reserved seating with tickets being $12 for the lower level and $10 for the upper level. Premium seating options are also available.

Fans can buy tickets for the entire series or individual games.

Iowa currently sits in first place in the Big Ten with two weekends remaining in the regular season. The Hawkeyes lead the league in batting average, doubles, hits, on base percentage, ERA, shutouts, and hits allowed per nine.

Iowa leads the nation in hits allowed per nine (6.74) and rank second with nine shutouts.

Iowa baseball is returning to Des Moines for a series for the second straight year. The Hawkeyes faced FIU for a three-game series in 2024 which was the first time since 2018 (and first regular season game since 2004) that the Hawkeyes played at Principal Park.

Eight Hawkeyes hail from the Des Moines metro area (Two from Johnston, two from Clive, one from Adel, one from Grimes, one from Van Meter, and one from Winterset).

UNI’s Todd Stepsis not ready to name starting QB

Sports

May 5th, 2025 by Ric Hanson

UNI football coach Todd Stepsis is not ready to name a starting quarterback coming out of spring practice. Four quarterbacks were competing to become the starter, including Matthew Schecklman, who appeared in nine games in 2024 as well as Aidan Dunne, who played in eight games. The Panthers closed out spring drills with a scrimmage on Saturday.

Stepsis feels the Panthers can win with any of the four.

Wile Stepsis plans to eventually settle on a starter he says a lot of successful FCS programs have used more than one quarterback.

Stepsis used multiple quarterbacks at times while he was at Drake and says there needs to be buy in from all involved.

The Panthers open next season at home on August 30th against Butler.

Former ISU star Darien Porter hopes to carve out a role in Las Vegas

Sports

May 5th, 2025 by Ric Hanson

Former Iowa State defensive back Darien Porter hopes to make an immediate impact for the Las Vegas Raiders next season. The Bettendorf native was taken in the third round of last month’s NFL Draft after a breakout senior season that saw him earn honorable mention All Big-12 honors. He joins a Raider team that lost two of three corners from last season.

Porter says the adjustment to the NFL will require more man coverage.

It has been a long road to the NFL for Porter, who began his college career as a receiver.

Porter says being a former receiver has actually helped him as a corner.

CAM Girls Look to Finish Track Season Strong

Sports

May 5th, 2025 by Christian Adams

The CAM Girls Track & Field team are on the final stretch of the regular season and are competing at a high-level heading into the last few regular season meets. The Cougars come off of a third-place finish at the Dave Tapps Invitational in Van Meter last week, a meet filled with good competition according to Head Coach Luke Symonds.

At Van Meter, Sophomore Ruthie Rich won the 100-meter dash running a 12.95, while Sophomore Ada Hansen took home the crown for the 100 and 400-meter hurdles. Symonds says Hansen will be running in multiple events as the season finishes.

The talent isn’t solely on the track for the Cougars, as there is plenty of skill in the field as well.

Symonds says it’s time to focus on the Rolling Valley Conference meet this week.

Throughout the entire season, effort has been extremely noticeable.

After the Cougars wrap up the conference meet, they will have two chances to compete before the state qualifying meet at Madrid.

Women’s Basketball Adds Evangelia Paulk to 2025-26 Roster

Sports

May 5th, 2025 by Christian Adams

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State women’s basketball coach Bill Fennelly has announced the signing of Evangelia Paulk ahead of the 2025-26 season. Paulk comes to Ames from Wofford College and will have two years of eligibility remaining. She is the second transfer to commit to the Cyclones, joining Arizona transfer Jada Williams.

“We could not be more excited to add Evangelia to the Iowa State family,” said Fennelly. “Our goal as we looked at our team for next year was to identify specific people and players who fit the great culture we have in our program. E is exactly what we wanted and needed.”

Paulk’s impressive sophomore campaign in Spartanburg was rewarded with the SoCon’s Player and Defensive Player of the Year honors. She started all 29 games for the Terriers and averaged over 32 minutes per contest, leading the team in scoring (12.8 PPG), rebounding (8.4 RPG) and steals (95). Her steals total also led the conference while her scoring average was fourth and rebounding was second. The Asheville, North Carolina native knocked down 42 3-pointers and tallied 54 assists on the season. She scored in double figures in 18 games while tallying nine double-doubles.

“She gives us needed length and athleticism on the wing,” said Fennelly. “E is a two player that will give us more versatility at both ends of the floor. I know our fans will love watching her compete in a Cyclone uniform.”

As a freshman, Paulk earned the status as the conference’s Freshman of the Year, averaging 8.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. She swiped 46 steals as a rookie, starting all 30 games and playing nearly 30 minutes per contest. The 6-0 guard totaled five double-doubles as a freshman, a Wofford program record.
