ACGC Takes home Championship in Shuttle Hurdle Relay

Sports

May 24th, 2025 by Christian Adams

A group that had battled through adversity all season is now the state champion. ACGC’s Morgun Nolte, Tate Fever, Tommy Skram, and Brexton Schneider took the 1A shuttle hurdle relay crown. After losing team member Jathan South to a leg injury and a couple of rough meets, Schneider was unsure if they even wanted to compete in the event.

However, the Chargers battled through adversity, and what seemed impossible became possible.

That was Skram as the Chargers broke a school record running a 59.94. In addition to battling through some jitters, they also had to go through a recall as South O’Brien was disqualified. Despite it all, Nolte’s start put the Chargers in a good position.

The win helped propel the Chargers boys to a third-place finish

Ada Hansen Gives CAM First Title in 32 years

Sports

May 23rd, 2025 by Christian Adams

For the First time since 1993, CAM is celebrating a state champion. Ada Hansen ran a 1:02.97 in the 400m hurdles to give the Cougars just their second ever title in a running event. Although there were some jitters, Hansen battled through them to get off to a solid start.

Although she won by 2.09 seconds, Hansen was unaware of where her competitors were entering the home stretch. However, she knew she had to keep it in high gear.

Being just a sophomore, it’s not hard to see Hansen sticking around in the event for years to come.

No stranger to the moment, she knew what it meant not only to her but to her team and her community.

Hansen joins Marne Harris as CAM’s only state champions.

Riverside Boys Claim Second Championship of Meet in SMR

Sports

May 23rd, 2025 by Christian Adams

For the second day in a row, the Riverside Bulldog boys have a state champion group. Cole Jeppesen, Jaxon Gordon, Maddox Knoke, and Dawson Henderson set a state record on their way to the 1600m sprint medley relay championship. Running a 3:30.94, they broke a record set by Earlham in 2022 by 0.54 seconds. Despite winning in record fashion, the race came down to the final meters. Defeating Lisbon by 0.22 seconds, Henderson recalls the final meters.

A good start can be just as important as a good finish. Despite not always being in the position he wanted to be in, Jeppesen battled and put his team in a good spot out of the gate.

Family values have been an echo throughout the Riverside program. Which made realizing a dream even more special to Gordon.

Heading into Day 3, the pair of Riverside championships has put the boys in contention to compete for the overall title. The Bulldogs trail Lisbon by 7 points. Saturday Riverside will run in 6 total events including three finals.

Riverside Wins 4×800 Relay

Sports

May 23rd, 2025 by Christian Adams

For the first time in 20 years, the Riverside Bulldogs are champions of a relay. Brody Henderson, Owen Fenner, Cruz Jaquez, and Dawson Henderson claimed the 4×800 title Thursday afternoon, running a school best 8:01.86. Coming in as one of the favorites, Brody Henderson knew a good start was all they needed.

Fenner nearly matched Henderson’s opening leg stride for stride and said his success in cross country translated to the track.

Jaquez had a great third leg to push the Bulldogs towards victory, running the second fastest 400m time on the team. He was cool, calm, and collected as the opening two legs gave him all the confidence he needed.

By the time the baton was handed to Dawson Henderson, the Bulldogs were in control. Running the fastest 400 on the team, he focused on keeping a steady second lap to secure the victory, beating the runner-up by nearly 4 minutes. Henderson also talked about how much it meant to the whole Riverside family.

With the Hendersons being juniors while Fenner and Jaquez are sophomores, there is no reason to think the Bulldogs’ boys 4×800 will be dropping off anytime soon.
