May 28th, 2025 by Christian Adams

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa senior defensive tackle Aaron Graves has been named to the 2025 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List. The announcement was made Wednesday by the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation.

The 42 nominees represent the finest in college football defensive players who have had the biggest IMPACT on their teams both on and off the field. IMPACT stands for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.

Graves (6-foot-4, 300-pounds) started all 13 games at defensive tackle in 2024, recording 33 tackles, including eight tackles for a loss (six sacks), three forced fumbles, three pass break-ups and two quarterback pressures. His three forced fumbles led the Big Ten.

The native of Dayton, Iowa, was tabbed Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week after registering five tackles, including two sacks, forcing a career-high two fumbles and breaking up a pass in Iowa’s 40-16 victory over Washington on Oct. 12, 2024.

Graves was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection by league coaches and media last season. He also earned Iowa’s team Hustle Award on defense. Off the field, Graves was a second-team Academic All-American and an Academic All-Big Ten honoree in 2024. He earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science with highest distinction last summer.

During his collegiate career, Graves has amassed volunteer hours at Filter of Hope, Safe Haven Animal Shelter, Athletes in Action, Day of Caring and CommUnity Crisis Services & Food Bank.

Former Hawkeye linebacker and current Carolina Panther Josey Jewellwon the award in 2017. James Morris was a finalist in 2013, while Desmond King (2016), Cooper DeJean (2023) and Jay Higgins (2024) were recent semifinalists.

Finalists for the award will be announced in December.

The Hawkeyes kickoff their 2025 season on Aug. 30 against UAlbany in Kinnick Stadium.

Price will bring a presence and tenacity that will fit in very well with our group. We look forward to welcoming her to Iowa City and seeing her on the field in the fall in the Black and Gold.”

The Madison, Miss. native has amassed 6,164 career minutes scoring three goals and tallying two assists. Loposer has played in 78 games earning 68 careers starts. Nodaway Valley Softball Set to Begin 2025 Season

Sports

May 27th, 2025 by Christian Adams

The Nodaway Valley softball season begins Thursday and like many teams around the state this early into the season, there is not that crystal clear starting nine yet. It is all about trial and error. Figuring out what works better than others, who has the strongest chemistry and what lineup gives you the best chance to win. Assistant Head Coach Ryan Zenir says there could be several different lineups we see throughout the course of the season.

The Wolverines will have a few new faces in the circle this summer.

A first-time co-op between Orient-Macksburg and Nodaway Valley puts Junior Emma Boswell on the Wolverines roster this season. Zenir says Boswell should be a major addition to the infield and the lineup.

Nodaway Valley returns Junior Izzy Eisbach as well. Eisbach, the state’s leading scorer on the basketball court is quite the softball talent as well. Eisbach hit .316 in 19 at bats with the Wolverines last year and just lightens up the team spirit according to Zenir.

According to coaches, the team has made it seem as if this co-op has been around for much longer with the way players from different schools interact.

The Wolverines begin their season Thursday with a road contest versus Mount Ayr.

Southwest Valley Boys Tennis Complete 2025 Season

Sports

May 27th, 2025 by Christian Adams

The Southwest Valley Boys Tennis season has come to a close and after a tough year, Head Coach Steve McGrew says the Timberwolves faced some pressure from the get-go.

Southwest Valley won one dual this year against Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson. McGrew says he was proud of the boys and that was a major confidence booster.

The Timberwolves lose two seniors in the offseason but there is a lot of excitement already blossoming for next year.

Jordan Bruce, Brady Sparks and the two freshmen in Carter Giles and Carson Boswell will look to bounce back and improve in the 2026 spring season.
