Now in its second year, the honor was created to recognize Big Ten student-athletes who strive to have a positive impact within their community in addition to excellence in competition.

From the collection of 36 local winners, two overall conference honorees will be selected and announced in the spring of 2026.

In recognition of their achievement and as an expression of the conference’s appreciation, each of the 36 campus winners will receive a medal bearing the likeness of Jackie Robinson and the logo of the Big Ten Conference.

Dillan Fontus of Maryland Football and Nanea Estrella, a member of the Iowa Women’s Wrestling team, were named the inaugural national winners last spring. AMES, Iowa – Iowa State women’s basketball juniors Addy Brown and Audi Crooks were named to the Wooden Award Top 50 Watch List. The pair is averaging a combined 38.0 points and 16.4 rebounds per game through the Cyclones’ first five contests.
Crooks broke the Iowa State single-game scoring record last Wednesday night against Valparaiso, punishing the one-on-one matchup in the low post with 43 points on 18-of-23 shooting in just 20 minutes of action. She followed up with ISU’s third-most field goals in a perfect shooting game (8-of-8 FG) on Sunday against Norfolk State. Crooks finished the week shooting over 83 percent from the floor (26-of-31) while averaging 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per contest. Her five blocks against the Spartans are the most by a Cyclone since Denae Fritz tallied five stuffs against Baylor (March 10, 2023) in the Big 12 tournament.
Brown also had a week full of milestones, recording her 1,000th career point on Wednesday and Iowa State’s fourth-ever triple-double on Sunday. Brown scored 18 points against Valparaiso to reach the 1,000-point milestone, Iowa State’s 36th member of the club. The Derby, Kansas native returned Sunday with a balanced stat sheet, scoring 11 while passing out 11 assists and pulling down 10 rebounds. The performance marked the first triple-double by a Cyclone in over a decade and the first by a Big 12 player in nearly a year (Serena Sundell, Kansas State, Dec. 5, 2024).
No. 12 Iowa State returns to action on Thursday night, hitting the road for the first time this season to meet Drake. The in-state rivalry game tips off at 6:00 p.m. in Des Moines and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Griswold Football Returns Several Starters for Next Season

Sports

November 19th, 2025 by Jack McGonigal

The Griswold Football team has wrapped up its 2025 season with a 1-8 record. The Tiger roster was filled with many players and minimal experience, making it oftentimes challenging to find consistent success. Nonetheless, Head Coach Seth Lembke had a positive outlook on the team’s 2025 campaign.

The Tigers lone win came against Stanton in a 28-20 home victory. A few weeks after that, Lembke officially made a switch at quarterback. Sophomore Dain Laverty took over while Wyatt Silk slid over to the receiver position. Laverty threw for 295 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the five games he started under center. A move that benefitted everyone in Lembke’s eyes.

Griswold returns their top three rushers as well.

On the defensive side of the football, Sophomore Colton Frieze led the way with 52.5 tackles on the season. Behind him, the Tigers return the next five best tacklers.

Griswold will have a much more experienced team in 2026 and look to increase their success next season.

LOS ANGELES, Calif.  – Iowa State senior Tamin Lipsey has been named to the preseason watch list for the John R. Wooden Award. In all, 50 men’s college basketball players were named to the list.
The preseason honors have been rolling in for Lipsey. Lipsey has been named to the Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Men’s College Player of the Year Watch List Presented by AXIA Time, the Oscar Robertson Player of the Year Award Watch List, the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Watch List and to the 10-person All-Big 12 Preseason Team.
Lipsey is off to a strong start to the year, leading the Cyclones to a 4-0 record. He is the first player in Big 12 history to tally 75 points, 20 assists and 15 steals through the first four games of a season. The only other major conference players to do that this century are Providence’s Kris Dunn (2015-16) and South Carolina’s Devan Downey (2007-08).
Last season, Lipsey was a semifinalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award and a finalist for the Nolan Richardson Award, presented to the player that is the heart and soul of a winning team. Lipsey earned All-Big 12 honors for the second-straight season, being named to the third team last season. He was also named to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team.
Lipsey hit a pair of career milestones last year. On Feb. 22 he broke Monté Morris’ career steals record with the 226th swipe of his career. He became the 35th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points against BYU on March 4. Lipsey is one of just 26 players in men’s college basketball to play 100 games and average 10.2 points, 4.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game since 1947-48. Sports

November 18th, 2025 by Ric Hanson

Iowa State coach Matt Campbell says Saturday will be emotional in Jack Trice Stadium. Sixteen Cyclones will celebrate Senior Day when ISU hosts Kansas.

It is a senior class that was a big part of Iowa State’s first 11-win season a year ago.

Iowa State is 6-4 and Campbell would like to see the seniors help lead the Cyclones to a strong finish.

Campbell says despite their recent struggles Kansas is a combination of talent and experience. The Jayhawks are 5-5 overall and dropped three of their last four games.
