I am originally from Lancaster, WI. My interest in radio probably stems from listening to WLS in Chicago, and KAAY in Little Rock, AR, in the early ’70’s.
I can remember playing around with my dad’s reel-to-reel tape recorder, doing mock interviews with my friends when I was younger. Little did I know that one day, that would lead to a career in broadcasting.
My first job was as a part-time announcer at 1460 KSO, in Des Moines. Since I seemed to be a “promising” personality, the station’s program director let me do traffic reports live from the road in the KSO “Traffic Dodger” pickup and later, SUV.
Once KSO went off the air, and its call letters retired, I worked part-time at WHO & KLYF in Des Moines. I also had a brief stint at KMXD in Des Moines, KJJC in Osceola, and a station in Jefferson.
I have also served as a volunteer reader for IRIS (the Iowa Radio reading Information Service for the blind & print handicapped). http://www.iowaradioreading.org/
I joined KJAN as Program Director in July, 1995, and switched to News Director in 2004. In March 2014, I bought a home here in town.
I enjoy bringing the latest news and weather to our listeners, Facebook and Twitter followers. Thanks for “tuning-in.”!
