It took firefighters about 30-minutes more to locate the body of a deceased male who was also in the house. Atlantic Fire Chief Mark McNees told KJAN News flames apparently spread from the basement to the first floor and into a second floor bedroom. The Chief said there were numerous combustible materials inside the home which made getting the flames knocked down and the victims found, difficult.
Firefighters left the scene at around 3:20-a.m. Atlantic Street Department crews were asked to salt and sand the street in front of the home, as the water used to fight the fire had created extremely icy conditions for pedestrians and motorists alike. DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A Senate panel has approved a bill that would require breast density data in mammogram reports be given to patients and physicians, a move that supporters say could help women detect cancer earlier. The bill approved Wednesday by a human resources subcommittee would require that patients be told if they have a certain density of breast tissue. Advocates of the proposal say such breast density can obscure early detection of breast cancer in mammograms. They say this legislation will help patients be better informed.
Several medical groups say they’re against mandating standards of care under Iowa law. Some say the information could lead anxious patients to undergo unnecessary and costly additional testing. Similar legislation has failed to advance in previous sessions. The bill now goes to a full committee.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – U.S. Bank will pay $18 million to settle a civil lawsuit filed by regulators alleging that it mishandled customer funds of a collapsed Iowa brokerage. U.S. District Judge Linda Reade approved a consent decree Wednesday that orders the bank to return the money to customers of Peregrine Financial Group, Inc.
The order settles a lawsuit brought by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission alleging that U.S. Bank allowed Peregrine founder Russell Wasendorf Sr. to improperly withdraw millions of customer funds to use for other expenses. Wasendorf is serving a 50-year prison term after he was convicted of stealing $215 million from customers over two decades.
The consent decree says U.S. Bank has already taken “significant remedial action” in its handling of customer funds that are supposed to be held separately.
