2 NE residents injured in Shelby County motorcycle accident

A motorcycle accident Sunday evening in Shelby County resulted in non-life threatening injuries to a man and woman from Nebraska. The Sheriff’s Office says Robert Duermyer, and his passenger, Alicia Livingston, both of Papillion, NE., were injured when the cycle they were on left the road and entered a ditch before hitting a mailbox near a farm drive. The pair were found lying on the ground in the 400 block of State Highway 37, at around 5:30-p.m. They were transported to Myrtue Memorial Hospital.

Officials say the accident happened because Duermyer was unfamiliar with the road, which has a sharp curve to the left. Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel with the Earling and Dunlap Fire and Rescue Departments.

3 arrested in Cass County drug bust

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reports three people were arrested over the weekend on drug charges. 37-year old Travis Lee Demey, and 30-year old Ashley Chantelle Nicole Hetterich, both of Carroll, were arrested late Friday night on charges that include: Felony Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine (over 5 grams), Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana and a Drug Tax Stamp Violation. They were also charged with Prohibited Acts and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. A subsequent search warrant at a home in Atlantic early Saturday morning, resulted in the arrest of 34-year old Juan Manuel Anaya Mendez, of Atlantic, on felony charges that include Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine (over 5 grams) and a Drug Tax Stamp Violation (D Felony), along with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia charges.

All three suspects were being held in the Cass County Jail on $100,000 bond, each. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Atlantic Police Department in the execution of the search warrant.

Demey and Hetterich were arrested at around 11:50-p.m., Friday, after  Cass County Deputies made contact with a suspicious vehicle at the Casey’s General Store parking lot in Anita. After speaking with the two occupants, Deputies became suspicious of illegal activity. The Cass County K-9 unit was utilized and indicated to the odor of illegal narcotics about the vehicle. The vehicle was then searched, resulting in deputies locating approximately 46 grams of methamphetamine, 11 grams of marijuana, digital scales, packaging material, and drug paraphernalia.

Tractor accident claims the life of Missouri Valley’s School Board President

A tractor accident Saturday afternoon has claimed the life of Missouri Valley School Board President Dan Zaiser. KETV in Omaha reports a neighbor and his nephew found the 53-year old Zaiser underneath the overturned tractor not far from the driveway entrance to his home. The two men and Zaiser’s twin brother helped pull him out from under the machine and immediately began to perform CPR.

It’s thought slippery conditions caused by a recent 5-inch rainfall contributed to the accident.

Family members said Zaiser’s other brother also died in a tractor accident on the same farm years ago. Zaiser served on the Missouri Valley School Board for 10 years. He’s survived by his wife, two daughters and a twin brother.

Creston Police incident report, 8-22-16

The Creston Police Department is investigating several recent incidents. Early Sunday morning, a Creston man reported that his vehicle, a white 2000 Chevy Cavalier, was taken from his residence sometime between 6-pm Saturday and 5-a.m. Sunday. The car was later recovered in the 600 block of N. Pine Street. Sunday night, a Creston woman reported that sometime between 2-a.m. and 5-p.m., Sunday, someone attempted to gain entry to her residence,  causing damage to the door and lock. The damage was estimated at $30.

August 18th, a women residing in the 400 block of S. Vine Street in Creston, reported that sometime between 9-p.m. Aug. 17th and 6:25-a.m. Aug. 18th, someone shot out the drivers side window of her vehicle while it was parked at her residence. And, Wednesday night, a female resident of the 600 block of N. Pine Street in Creston, reported that sometime between Aug. 15th and Aug. 17th, someone broke into her home and stole a 42-inch television. The thief also attempted to gain entry to a safe, causing damage to it. The loss was estimated at $430.

Creston Police Dept.’s arrest report, 8-22-16

Officials with the Creston Police Department today (Monday), released a report on arrests. On August 16th, 18-year old Kane Farlow, of Creston, was served a Union County Warrant for the charge of OWI 1st at the Union County Jail. Farlow continues to be held in the Union County Jail on $11,000 bond.

Friday afternoon, 29-year old Andrew Moffitt, of Creston, was arrested on a Union County Warrant for Probation Violation. Moffitt was later released from the Union County Jail on a $2000 bond. Early Saturday morning, 24-year old Colton Dunphy, of Creston, was arrested on a charge of OWI 1st offense. Dunphy was later released from the Union County Jail on $1,000 bond.

Early Sunday morning, 29-year old Shaun Walkup, of Diagonal, was arrested in Creston for Public Intoxication. Walkup was later released from the Union County Jail on a $300 bond. And, Sunday night, 42-year old Robby Fleming, of Creston, was arrested at the Law Enforcement Center on an Assault charge. Fleming was later released from custody on a Promise to Appear in court.

Carcasses, neglected cattle found in Madison County

WINTERSET, Iowa (AP) – Authorities have seized 36 head of neglected cattle from a farm near Winterset in Madison County. The cattle were seized Sunday night and taken away for food, water and medical care. Authorities also found cattle carcasses on the property. No arrests have been reported. The Sheriff’s Office says charges are pending.

Taylor County man injured in n.w Missouri crash Saturday night

A man from Taylor County was seriously injured Saturday night, during an alcohol-related crash, in northwest Missouri. The Missouri State Patrol reports 49-year old Troy Farrens, of Blockton, was driving a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on Missouri Highway C, about three-miles west of Elmo, in Nodaway County, when he crossed the center line of the road. His cycle struck an eastbound car driven by 21-year old Breann Hunt, of Burlington Junction. The accident happened at around 8:40-p.m., Saturday.

Farrens was ejected from the cycle following the crash.He was flown by LifeNet helicopter to Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha for treatment of serious injuries. Hunt was not injured in the crash.

Farrens was charged with driving while intoxicated, and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway.

Shelby County man injured in Sunday afternoon crash

One person was injured Sunday afternoon during a collision between an SUV and a tractor, in Shelby County. The Iowa State Patrol reports 67-year old Russell Buckley, of Earling, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported by Defiance Rescue to Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, and later to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, in Omaha, following the crash that happened at around 2:50-p.m., south of Defiance.

Officials say Buckley was traveling north on Linden Road on a 1949 Ford 8N tractor, when 23-year old Orin W. Wright, of Kirkman, tried to pass the tractor in a marked, “No Passing” zone, as he was also traveling northbound on Linden.

Wright’s 2004 Lincoln Navigator clipped the left rear tire of the tractor, causing Buckley to be thrown from the machine. The accident remains under investigation.
