THERESA MILDRED GROTE, 97, of Harlan, died Friday, March 6, 2026, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan. A Mass of Christian Burial for THERESA GROTE will be held 11-a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2026, at St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima in Portsmouth. Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan has the arrangements.

Visitation at St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima in Portsmouth, will be held Wed. March 11th, from 5-until 7-p.m., with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 7-p.m.

Burial is in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Portsmouth.

Her sons – Joseph (Kathleen/Kitty) Grote of Meridan, KS; Robert Grote of Harlan, IA; John Henry Grote and his husband Barry Blakeley of Oakland, CA

Her 8 daughters -Sharon (Bill) Gaul of Tucson, AZ; Mary Lou Arkfeld (and fiancé Bob Gagne), of Council Bluffs; Julia Theulen, of Harlan; Ruth (Bob) Perry, of Colorado Springs, CO; Donna (Chris) McGinty, of Topeka, KS; Rita (Craig) McElfresh, of Wailuku, HI; Laura (Dan) Longacre, of Orlando, FL; Lisa (John Sr.) Olsufka, of Shelby.

Her sister – Mary Heese, of Earling.

22 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, her  sisters- and brother- in laws, other relatives and friends.
