Red Flag and High Wind Warnings posted for western/southwest Iowa

Area Counties: Sac-Crawford-Carroll-Monona-Harrison-Shelby-Audubon-Guthrie-Dallas: A HIGH WIND WARNING IS IN EFFECT FROM TONIGHT (3/12) THRU 7 AM FRIDAY (3/13)

Expect West to northwest winds 30 to 35 mph with gusts up to around 60 mph.

* IMPACTS…Damaging winds can blow down tree limbs and power lines, causing power outages. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Watch for falling debris and tree limbs. Use caution if you must drive.

RED FLAG WARNING FOR ALL OF SOUTHWEST AND WESTERN IOWA from Noon today through 9-p.m.

South to southwest winds sustained at 20 to 25 MPH, with gusts to near 40 MPH possible.

The humidity level will fall to around 25% in the afternoon and evening.

* IMPACTS…Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
