Hawkeyes Stay Perfect Through Day One

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The top ranked University of Iowa women’s wrestling team advanced all 10 wrestlers to the semifinals at the NCAA Regional Championships on Friday. In total, the Hawkeyes secured eight pins, four of which were under a minute.
At 103 pounds, No. 2 Valarie Solorio opened her day with a quick pin, securing a fall in 0:36 over Chelsea Beaver of Augsburg University. She followed it up with a 13-2 technical fall against Kirsten Cortez of Carthage College.
No. 4 Nyla Valencia is moving on to the semifinals at 110 pounds after a bye and a 10-0 technical fall over Amelia Hermanson of Augsburg University.
At 117 pounds, No. 6 Brianna Gonzalez received a first-round bye. In the quarterfinals, she picked up a win by fall at 2:38 over Gisele Gallegos of Augsburg University to advance to the semifinals.
At 124 pounds, No. 8 Cali Leng moved through a bye and secured a fall at 2:22 against Bree Swenson of Dubuque to lock in her spot in the semifinals.
No. 4 Karlee Brooks advanced via a bye and earned a 10-0 technical fall over Paige Haaf of Augsburg University on her way to the semifinals at 131 pounds.
At 138 pounds, Lilly Luft received a bye. In round two, she clinched a 10-0 technical fall over Mattie Papenthein of Dubuque on her way to the semifinals.
At 145 pounds, No. 1 Reese Larramendy advanced through round one via bye. In the second round, she recorded a fall at 1:19 against Siobhan Rogers of Quincy to secure a spot in the semifinals.
No. 1 Kennedy Blades advances to the semifinals at 160 pounds after two strong performances. She earned a 10-0 technical fall over Grace Rinehart of Luther and another 10-0 technical fall against Eliana Callies of Upper Iowa.
Top-ranked Kylie Welker is moving on to the semifinals at 180 pounds after delivering two quick pins. She secured a fall in 0:33 over Makenna Bovee of Carthage College in round one before registering the 0:49 fall against Tori Maxey of Cornell College in round two.
At 207 pounds, No. 2 Katja Osteen made her way to the semifinals, needing just 0:13 to earn a fall over Kelsey Knief of Luther and 0:56 to earn a fall over Alannah Peterson of Buena Vista.
