(Winterset, IA) – A man who ran onto a roadway in Winterset was struck and killed late Saturday night. The Iowa State Patrol reports 23-year-old Logan Smith, of Winterset, was he hit when a pickup entering Winterset traveling south on Highway 169, just past E. Madison Street, at around 10:45-p.m., Saturday.

The Patrol says Smith came out of the east ditch before running across Highway 169 and being struck by the 2014 Ford F-250 pickup driven by 18-year-old Jase Pettit, of Afton. Smith died at the scene.

Multiple area agencies responded to the site of the accident.
