CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) – Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell, a former University of Iowa All-American, has been selected for the 2025 Dick Butkus Award as the NFL’s top linebacker. Campbell, who graduated from Cedar Falls High School, was a first-round draft pick in 2022. In his third NFL season, he became a foundational piece of Detroit’s defense. The award was presented by Matt Butkus, son of the late Dick Butkus, in recognition of Campbell’s breakout season as the anchor of one of the league’s most physical defensive units.

Campbell ranked second in the NFL in total tackles this season and led the league in run stops. He also recorded three forced fumbles and five sacks while providing consistent run support, solid coverage, and vocal leadership. Campbell finished first among a competitive field of finalists that included San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner, Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Zack Baun who won last year, and former winner Roquan Smith of the Baltimore Ravens.

Campbell was the first Iowa Hawkeye to win the Dick Butkus Award in 2022.
