Iowa was no match for seventh ranked Michigan State. The Spartans used a 17-1 first half run to take control and cruised to a 71-52 win in East Lansing in the Big Ten opener for both. The Hawkeyes shot only 38 percent, were out-rebounded 37-18 and the Spartans connected on 22-of-25 free throws.

That’s Iowa coach Ben McCollum. Bennett Stirtz had 14 points but he was the only Hawkeye in double figures.

It was Iowa’s first loss after opening the season with seven wins.
