Iowa basketball coach Ben McCollum likes the progress junior forward Alvaro Folgueiras has made heading into Christmas break. The native of Spain is averaging just over nine points and shooting better than 45 percent from three point range for an Iowa team that is 10-2. McCollum says Folgueiras is adjusting to a new style of player after being named the Horizon League Player-of-the-Year last season at Robert Morris.

McCollum says he is doing a better job of just playing and not worry about results.

Folgueiras says for himself and the team success begins at the defensive end.

He says continued growth is a must as the Hawkeyes get ready to head back into Big Ten play.

Folgueiras is coming off a season high 17 points in Saturday’s win over Bucknell. The Hawkeyes return to action next Monday by hosting UMass-Lowell.
